Company

Cryogenic and vacuum systems Ltd (CVS) was established in 2014 by experienced scientists and engineers from aerospace industry with the purpose of bringing practical and reliable vacuum and cryogenic technologies to the consumer at an affordable price.

  • CVS is a member of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Latvian Refrigeration Engineers Association, the Swedish Vacuum Society, the R&D partner of choice of many European scientific institutions.

  • CVS research work is a vital part of many European Comission, ESA, ERDF and Latvian funded applied research programs.

-In 2017 CVS was awarded the Horizont 2020 SME phase I prize.

-In 2018 European Comission awarded CVS by the Seal of Excellence.

  • In 2016, based on our detailed understanding of vacuum and cryogenic technologies, we invested in developing and commercializing our patented sublimation technology and started producing and selling our “DryEat(R)” sublimators.

What is Sublimation

Sublimation, in physics, is conversion of a substance from solid to gaseous state without its’ becoming liquid. The process of drying the products by first freezing them and them removing the ice under vacuum (sublimation of ice) is also often called lyophilization, cryodesiccation or freeze drying

I would like to share my passion in sublimating apples.

I would like to share my delight in sublimating apples! This process amazed me with its uniqueness and great results. Apples undergo an amazing transformation, turning into light and fragile treats that melt in your mouth. First, the appearance of sublimated apples is great. They have a bright and appealing texture that is eye-catching. Whether it's apple chips or pieces of freeze-dried fruit, every bite looks perfect and mouth-watering.

not just strawberries dried for longer shelf life, but a whole new product…
For example, fresh strawberries do not look very appetizing when put into yogurt. Sublimated strawberries absorb yogurt and become an integral part of a delicious and attractive-looking morning meal, while retaining all the vitamins and nutrients of the fresh fruit.

Sublimation: Possible Business Models

Our sublimation equipment could be used for your private purposes – to preserve your own harvest, or to produce nice and healthy snacks for your four-pawed friend. However, the main reason to purchase our machines is to make a good business with the products they can produce. Below you can find a couple of examples from our current customers. They are happy with our machines and with their new business. We hope you will soon join them, and come up with your own ideas of profitable and healthy business!

Preserving the harvest

Strawberries are a delicate product subject to vagaries of the weather. Once the weather is warm and dry, a lot of strawberries ripen in the fields, and the prices drop. One can choose not to sell at the dumping price to the supermarkets, but rather to preserve the harvest by sublimation. Good quality strawberries make delicious sublimated strawberries, which command retail prices of 120 Eur per kg and more.

02

Producing the biologically active substances

The gentle drying method allows to retain all the important substances in the dried plants, herbs, flowers, which could be then processed into a powder form and / or encapsulated.

Image

Bar snacks

Salty dried snacks raise thirst and thus go well with a good beer or wine. Furthermore, they simply look good.

Image

Producing the supplies for tourists, sportsmen, adventurers

The sublimated products have the highest nutritient to weight ratio. This is very important for those who need to carry them to remote locations. Furthermore, no cooling is needed for storage, only an airtight package. Thus, sublimated products like meat command very high prices when sold to this target group.

Image

Producing novel snacks

Unique texture of sublimated products and their high nutrient content make them to an ideal basis for all sorts of snacks – sweet and savory. The price is limited only by your creativity, the field is relatively new, and the consumer desire for tasty and healthy snacks is skyrocketing

Image

Making pet food

Dried healthy treats for dogs or cats – made from meat, fish or other ingredients of choice – are a good option to reward them for their loyalty and good behavior.

Image

Providing ready to serve hot meals, like soup or gulash

Sublimated meals are packed in an airtight bowl. Slowly adding hot water is restoring the original texture, color and taste. Freshly cooked meals – anytime, anywhere! No fast food anymore. Sublimated meals is a healthy and convenient alternative!

Image

Preserved flowers, or the whole bouquets

Diamonds are forever, but even the freshest bouquet dies within a week. For those, who want to keep the warm memories of their gorgeous moments (for example, the bridal bouquet), sublimation technology offers the only possible solution. Sealed in a glass jar, the flowers will stay looking fresh and gorgeous for many years.

Image

Sublimated citrus slices are perfect for any bar or restaurant

They could be easily grated to create a powder with intense taste - which could be used to garnish exquisite dishes and drinks

Image

Supplying innovative high value food ingredients and colors

For example, flower petals could be used as colorants, additives, decoration...

Success stories

Diana

Diana (SIA “Dainas”) grows strawberries. Seasonal product with short shelf life. Big dumping from wholsale buyers also pressed her buisiness…

She purchased an experimental sublimator for 6 kg and began to produce freeze-dried strawberries and freeze-dried strawberry powder

Freeze-dried strawberries are in demand all year round, and are especially popular as gifts for children at Christmas

Freeze-dried strawberry powder is supplied by Diana to several local confectionery stores throughout the year

sublimator

As a result, Diana doubled the area of greenhouses with strawberries, bought our industrial machine for 50 kilograms and wants to develop furtherâ€Ķ

Inga and Ilze

Inga and Ilze, owners of a small confectionery factory (SIA
“KarameÄžu darbnÄŦca”). At some point, they realized that they had
reached the ceiling of their candy production market

Owners decided to expand the assortment and diversify the
production line and bought a small experimental sublimation
machine

They started sublimating fruit and using it in the production of
chocolate and candy. They saw that the addition of freeze-dried
fruit creates a bright taste and flavor of candies and chocolate

They tried to launch a “space” line of products

The demand became such a big, that they took a loan and bought a
100 kilogram sublimation machine from us

As a result, sales of new “space” candies and “space” chocolates
have significantly improvedâ€Ķ

sublimator

Now they are working on a new unique product and are preparing
to buy a 1000 kilogram robotic sublimates production line from
usâ€Ķ

Inetta

Inetta (SIA “PakalnieÅĄi”) produced cottage cheese. There were limitations on shelf life, and the product was not unique….

She have bought 1 experimental machine for 6 kg.
As a result, she created 2 technologies that made her cheese unique:
-production of cheese with freeze-dried additives (mushrooms, vegetables, meat products) and
-production of freeze-dried cheese products with additives, e.g. cheese candies

sublimator

The economic effect allowed Inetta to purchase a 30 kg industrial sublimation machine from us a year later!
She doesn’t want to stop there and is preparing to buy a large 100 kg unit
