Probable Nova SPIRITS16tn in M108

The transient star SPIRITS16tn brightened up in M108 and was discovered on August 15, 2016 by the SPitzer InfraRed Intensive Transients Survey (SPIRITS). It was found at IR magnitude 13.04 at 89.9" form the center of M108, but not confirmed on subsequent photos. Therefore, its type remains unknown. It is assumed that this was probably not a supernova, but a bright extragalactic nova.
