The Ekvator 1 is a geostationary communications satellite built by ISS Reshetnev, possibly for Iran. Ekvator may be the Russian project name for the satellite and not the actual final name.

The 2300 kg Ekvator 1 satellite is based on the Ekspress-1000N bus and carries a payload consisting of Ka, Ku and S-band transponders.

The satellite will be parked in geostationary orbit at 34 eastern longitude. According to the website of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), that spot is currently reserved for an Iranian communications satellite (under the name IRN-30B-34E). This is a hint that Ekvator is actually being built for a foreign customer is that ISS Reshetnev signed a contract in April 2021 with Glavkosmos Launch Services to provide launch services for the satellite.

Based on information reported in early 2026 after the launch of Jam-e Jam 1, Ekvator may in fact be the Iraninan Jam-e Jam 2 satellite with at least part of the communications payload being provided by Iran.
