CoS parallels with the 4400 Center?
You know after the Tom Cruise snafu I started thinking about the Church of Scientology again and all the stuff I'd read on it, and my brain made a connection. Anyone else think some of the elements of Jordan Collier and the 4400 Center might correspond to L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology?
Some similarities:
1) Both center around the teachings of a particular charismatic individual and his book(s).
2) Both offer the supposed chance to unlock powers of the human mind such as telepathy, mind control, murder w/a thought, etc...
3) Both have a science fiction basis (The 4400 Center - people from the future, Scientology - "thetans" from the past who were murdered by Xenu and now inhabit human hosts)
4) Both require large inputs of money.
5) Both have leaders that live lavishly.
6) Both require members to take intensive training classes on everything from healthy "correct" living to "correct" thinking and freeing the mind.
7) Both tend to encourage shuttered communities wherein the members might only be allowed to interact with non-members on a limited basis.
8) Both have "levels" indicating how advanced a certain individual is. (4400 Center - "keys", Scientology - "OT" [operating thetan] levels)
9) Both actively recruit celebrities, and, once having said celebrities offer them advantages and quick advancement.
10) Once said celebrities are inducted, they are used to front the organization and recruit new members.
11) Both are highly controversial and unliked by large portions of the outside world.
12) Both oppose the use of psychiatric drugs (ep 02x02 and Tom Cruise's fight with Matt Laur) viewing them as bodily pollutants.
Just saying...I wonder if anyone else had thought this. It would admittedly be odd if it were intentional as CoS is a very strong presence in Hollywood and media.
Btw, if you'd like some information on Scientology (at an admittedly opposed site) check out http://www.xenu.net
