Listens: The Reason

He Said

Title: He Said
Summary: Castiel spook and Dean listened. The angel never knew it, but the man listened and memorized everything he ever said. Everything.
Pairing: Destiel (slash)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Warning: Short, really short. But I likey it

This was just a short and quick story that the song by Hoobastank inspired me to wright. I hope you like it. =]

I was getting to close to the humans in my charge. You.

Dean did not want to admit that the angel had touched him. Did not want to admit that he cared for Castiel's safety. And he never would, out loud. But when his angel had spoken those words a fire in Dean that he hadn't known existed flared up through every cell in his body. He listened to Castiel, always. Every word the angel said was branded into Dean's mind. He would never forget anything that the other man had to say. It was too important, each word a soothing life line that feed Dean what he needed to feel. Loved, needed, and like he wasn't alone. Dean hated being alone, and now he never was. Even when Castiel wasn't around, if he thought of him, of his words, he would feel his scar tingle. A reminder of their permanent bound.

For what it's worth I would give anything not to have you do this

It had meant a lot to Dean to hear him say it. That's why it had burnt itself into him so deep. The exact way his mouth shaped itself, the shade of his eyes, the tone of his voice. Dean had memorized it all. He could replay it anytime he wanted, or needed, to hear it again. It was hard, to face his time in hell again. He had struggled not to fall back into the old routine, not to become the horrible monster he had been before. And he had failed. He had failed miserably at keeping himself calm, and only his angel had pulled him out of it. He hadn't spoken to anyone in the hospital, not until he spoke to Castiel first.

For the first time I feel.

Dean had been more than a little shocked at the sudden confession. Castiel had dropped no hints that he was becoming more human like. And then suddenly he was telling Dean he had full fledged emotions? Dean's heart skipped three beats before it started again. His head was light and swimming, his lips suddenly dry. He hadn't known how to respond. He knew that even though he felt, that did not say that he felt the way Dean did. He didn't hold his breath when Dean walked in the room, he didn't lay in bed for hours hoping for a visit, and he definitely didn't have the dreams Dean had. No, it didn't mean any of these things, but it could. Dean felt himself smiling as his eyes slipped closed and his body went numb. It was time for sleeping now, he could think more on this topic in the morning.
