Product Description

The Big Boss16Qt. 1300 Watt High Speed, Low Energy Oil-Less Fryer is traditional cooking reinvented. This energy efficient tabletop cooker combines halogen heat, convection and infrared technology leaving food moist on the inside and browned and crispy on the outside without the use of added fats or oils. Three cooking elements working in uniform. Halogen directly heats the surface of the food for browning, roasting and flavor. Convection circulates the hot air, evenly distributing the heat for faster cooking. Gentle infrared heat cooks food from inside out, sealing in juices, roast turkey, bake fish, broil steaks, air fry chicken, grill meats, toast breads, steam vegetables and even make dessert, all without pre-heating or defrosting.

Crispy Chicken Without the Oil!

Crispy Chicken Without the Oil!
Very Impressed with this air fryer. I cooked chicken wings and fries the first day I got it. I was expecting the outcome to be that of oven fried chicken, but the actual results was the same as if I had deep fried it in oil. My mind was blown how crispy the chicken came out. The inside was surprisingly moist. My fiancé has been cooking with it everyday since we got it. There's so much you can do with this, dehydrate fruit, cook seafood etc. I absolutely love this! As others have stated, it does take a little longer to cook foods with the air fryer, however, I turned up the temperature setting and it worked perfectly for me. The air fryer is also sizable, and needs to be near an outlet as the cord is not that long. The light used when cooking is so bright that it lit up my whole kitchen. I am thinking of purchasing another on to have on hand as a spare and to be able to cook more food at once if I have to cook for more people. If you purchase this, you won't be sorry, and it is a healthier alternative for eating fried foods, which I love and crave a lot!

So this is my second one of these. YES! I bought a second one and didn’t even try to “shop” for a different brand. You may be wondering why I bought two? Well, I lost the first one in my divorce to the wife so......had to get one for myself. This thing is big enough to make a meal for the entire family. When I was married, we got a cheap one from a store just to try the “new fad” air fryer. They are awesome but, it was so small I could only cook 8 or so chicken nuggets for the kids. Which means I had to do this twice. Once for each kid (I have 2) and then again if I wanted some. This model solves that problem. Also, all the parts (except the lid) are dishwasher safe so cleaning is a breeze. Put the glass bowl in upside down and your good to go. Basket and racks are stainless steel so they’re in there as well. If I wanted to be nit picky, the only negative thing I can say about this is that the glass top does not come off of the cooking unit. What does this mean? It means when you need to clean the lid, you have to be careful, unplug the unit, and don’t use a wet rag. Use a damp towel. If you need soap, use light soap and a damp towel to wipe off the soap. Quick tip, reheating pizza in this is fantastic. Just wet your hand, wipe some water on the top of the crust, (so it doesn’t get hard) and put it on the rack. Another tip, if you do hotdogs or sausages or bacon, save yourself some cleaning time by putting a microwave safe plate or aluminum foil in the bottom to catch all the grease that drips. I use this everyday and if you have kids, it’s a real time saver. Reheating fries from McDonald’s is amazing. If you let McDonald’s fries get cold, they are horrible. Reheating in a microwave makes them rubber and in an oven makes them hard. Five to ten minutes in one of these makes them like you just bought them at the drive thru.

We like it very much. Was little skeptical at the beginning but it is proven to work well so far!

The bow is large enough to cook a turkey! You need a big area to use it and store it. If you have the space it shouldn't be a problem.

I like short ribs and they do taste well. It is fairly quick to make them as well. Takes some trial and error to do the timing and temperature correct for different foods but overall it was a great investment.

We are eating more healthier french fries and wings without all the frying involved.

I have a small, poorly ventilated apartment, and cooking in my regular oven is kind of a pain, so I decided to try this convection oven as a substitute. I was concerned I wouldn't actually use it often, but I find myself using it quite a bit actually.

    Pros:

    - Transparent bowl means you can see your food cooking and make adjustments, unlike the basket-style air fryers

    - Heats up quickly, and the temperature gauge seems accurate

    - Bowl is tall enough to cook multiple levels of food (though you have to plan for food that will work well with that method, like potatoes on the bottom level and meat on top)

    - No oil needed for crispy food - I've had good results roasting vegetables in particular

    Cons:

    - It's HUGE, heavy, and would be a massive pain to store and take out if you don't have counter space for it. I leave it out on my counter all the time, and the footprint is pretty large, but it's a section of counter I don't use a ton anyway.

    - Kind of a pain to clean. As mentioned, the bowl is big and heavy and doesn't fit in the dishwasher. As long as I get to it right after I've cooked, cleaning it by hand isn't too bad. I have no idea how I'm going to clean the heating element, but so far it hasn't been a big problem.

    - Hard to cook a large batch of anything. I can reasonably make a meal for 2-3 in one go (ex, pork loin roast on top rack, bell peppers and winter squash underneath), but when I tried to make a bigger batch of chicken legs, rotating them halfway, they didn't get very crisp and I ended up overcooking them.

So far I haven't had any concerns with it overheating, but I keep the lid clear so it ventilates properly, and I don't know if it's necessary but I keep silicone baking mats underneath to protect the countertop.

I haven't had to turn my oven on since I bought it, so as long as it keeps performing at this level I'm happy!

No confusing assembly; clear cooking and use of rack/basket instructions; no kitchen spatter or unappetizing hot oil odors; food cooks to perfection! The basket is one of the best features compared to other oil-less fryers. It is woven in such a way that the edges of the weave aren't sharp and it cleans up easy-peasy.

We tried 3 different foods immediately upon receipt (and washing, of course): Jojos, bacon, and "fried" chicken tenders.

Jojos - The potatoes were crisp on the outside and very tender on the inside. On hindsight, I could have made more! Just a quick wipe of the cooking basket and on to the next dish.

Bacon - Crisp and sort of fluffy. (I don't know how else to describe it.) The strips were virtually greaseless when done. The remaining grease in the bowl was a snap to pour out and clean up.

Chicken Tenders - We used one of the recipes provided. The cracker crumbs for the breading stayed on reasonably well. The chicken was moist and tender just like momma used to make :-)...but without all the messy grease! Again, clean up was quick and easy.

Last but not least, we live in Florida and after all of that high temperature cooking the kitchen was still cool!

I just wish it would hold more food at one time. :-(

    Go Big Red!
Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2015

I was skeptical about this counter cooker when my wife said it was on her Christmas list, the red one of course. I thought it would be used a few times and then end up collecting dust or stored in the cabinet to take up space. Fortunately I was very surprised at the versatility and frequency of use. So far we have cooked chicken breast, French Fries, baked potatoes and a few other items. Last night we baked 4 very large baked potatoes and in 45 minutes they were ready to serve and the texture was excellent. The heat generated was nothing like that of the oven and the power required was also much less. Cleaning the container is easy, it also includes a large metal extension ring when you really load it up and I really like being able to see the food as it is cooking. Of course you do get some light washing out over the counter but I'm fine with that and I think you will be too. The color red cost about eight dollars more than the standard silver but once you look at the details the red one included free shipping and the standard did not. The final price was about the same and the red does add a little pop to an otherwise earthy colored kitchen. As for the fries and chicken I'd say the steak cut fries were cooked but could have been crisper if left in a bit longer, the chicken breast was moist and tender as if cooked in a pan. I'm a believer and it will be used often. Shipping was fast and the package well protected. For the price I would strongly recommend this product.

    Novelty, but made yummy food!
Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2021
Brief content visible, double tap to read full content.

This is more of a novelty air fryer, than an everyday airfryer.

Pros: larger size, I like the glass bowl, no non-stick chipping, mesh basket and racks could be used multiple ways.

Cons: very hot to the touch, cord is in bad placement to avoid over heating, design of the top, display is not digital.

Regarding the top: this is why I consider it a novelty. It's made of plastic that is too flimsy to keep up with everyday use. Compounding the problem, you have to pull the cover off by this plastic to access the food. While in use, it is so hot you cant put it down. The hot fan piece is flush with the countertop when you do. So you have to hold the heavy top, while with one hand you fix your food. Not ideal, but you can manage.

The first time I used this, it completely shut off half way through. I am aware the light goes on and off, but this completely stopped cooking the food. I think the fan rattled the plastic, where it thought the lid was open? I unplugged - pulled back in, opened and shut the top, and it started up again. Hmm.

Last issue, the timer. If you overset your time, you cant lessen it. You just have to wait for it to run down. The timer also has to be used for it to work. Again, not ideal, but once you know...

I will say, when it works, it works. Everything we've made has been yummy! Tonight I took advantage of the two layers and did fried chicken and french fries. It was delicious, and I had no issue with the stacking.

Looking forward to trying a whole chicken, or maybe a turkey with the extender! But, i probably won't rely on it if I were having guests.

Oh, one other thing, I noticed a lot of steam built up after the unit turned off, but the cover was left on. Need to vent, I think. Not sure how that will effect the integrity of the top in the long run..

I bought this a few weeks ago. I debated about it because of the negative reviews. But never owning a fancy $400 air fryer I fell in love with this one. the complaints were its not like the picture you cant stack food in it. Well that is true for frying in a pan also to cook evenly in a fry pan it has to be in a single layer. what I have found with this is that I can cook a 3 course meal for 2 people in this one bowl. I have made steak (which my husband said was better then he has ever tasted) pork chops, air fried chicken and baked ck breast. while cooking the chicken on one rack I can put the other rack in and cook veggies and bread on it. yes it does require timing it but what meal doesnt? I made pork chops with red potatoes and onions, broccoli and cheese and rolls all at the same time. just by learning how long each thing must cook. instead of just writing bad reviews the 1st time you used it because you dont know how I recommend using it leaning how to recook foods. once you get the hang of it you will hardly ever use your stove again. as i type I have chicken and mixed veggies cooking. I am glad I was not put off by all the negative feedback and went ahead and purchased this. and took the time to learn how to use it.

    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1 heaping teaspoon salt

    3/4 teaspoon black pepper

    3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

    3/4 teaspoon paprika

    3 tablespoons buttermilk

    FOR COOKING

Peanut oil in an oil sprayer, for cooking

    INSTRUCTIONS

To marinate the chicken: In a large sealable, combine the chicken tenders with the remaining marinade ingredients. Seal the bag tightly and massage the chicken until it is evenly coated with buttermilk and seasoning. Place in a bowl (in case of leakage) and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 24 hours.

To make the breading: In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Whisk until well blended, then add the buttermilk and stir with a fork until the mixture is evenly clumpy.

Preheat the Big Boss for 10 minutes at 450 degrees fahrenheit. Remove the chicken tenders from the marinade one at a time and toss into the breading mixture. Be sure to press the chicken firmly into the breading so clumps adhere to the meat. (It's a messy job: use a fork to remove the wet tenders from the marinade and your hand press into the breading.) Set breaded tenders aside onto a plate.

To cook the chicken: Place the bottom rack on a plate and lay the uncooked tenders out keeping them ¼” apart. Using the oil sprayer, give each tender a decent spray of peanut oil. Coat them enough that they are not dry. Place the rack in the bottom of the Big Boss. Repeat this process for the top rack and the second half of the uncooked tenders.

Set the Big Boss to 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove both racks and swap the tenders from the bottom rack to the top rack and vice versa, flipping them over while you do that. Place the racks on the plate and spray the second side with a coating of peanut oil until they are not dry. Place the racks back into the Big Boss and cook for another 10 minutes at 450 degrees.

Remove the tenders and serve with Honey Dill Dip or Heartbeat Hot Sauce Co. hot sauce.

Love this Air Fryer and would highly recommend it. It cooks meals quickly and well.

I made roast chicken and fries and the skin on the chicken was super crispy and the meat was moist and tender. Fries were delicious in less than 20 mins.

I also love the fact that it’s glass and not plastic. Also it’s easy to clean and I love the simple settings.
