I’ve been using the WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD as my main drive and it’s been excellent. Installation was easy, and the speed difference was noticeable right away — fast boot times, quick game loads, and smooth performance overall.

Thermals have stayed under control with normal airflow, and the 2TB capacity is perfect for a modern PC setup. No issues so far.

Great choice if you want fast, reliable Gen 4 NVMe storage.

I have not benchmarked this drive against my previous Samsung 990 2TB but I will say this is working as well or better than it. Since receiving this drive I have reformatted my computer and made this drive my new boot drive. Boots seem faster (could also be an effect of reformatting) but I have not noticed any downsides. The drive slotted in well and lined up great with the heatsink that is included on the motherboard guard. I originally replaced my 990 because it seemed like it was giving me BSODs but it may have been a driver issue as I am not using it as a secondary drive without issue.

Not my first SSD, I am replacing a 1TB on my desktop. I have not installed it yet but I installed two of those already on my laptop and desktop and they have been easy and have worked flawlessly, just not enough vcapacity for my desktop

I did purchase this SSD in order to have all my Epic, Xbox and Steam games installed in there.

It has been working great since my purchase, no issues at all.

The software is very simple to understand and the temperature never goes beyond 35 degrees when gaming in 4K resolution.

Bought this 2TB version at $160 for my PS5. Also bought this $10 heatsink to go with it which works perfectly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KDDKDNN

This showed a read speed of 6,539 MB/s after format which is very good and within normal range for the 2TB SN850X on a PS5. You get the full extra 2TB of storage space with this (in addition to the storage space already on your PS5).

This was very easy to install with the heatsink I mentioned. I had no issues and hopefully never do. I'll update this review if I do, but so far so good. Highly recommend.

One thing to note is that there is a sticker on one side of this hard drive with some info on it. DO NOT remove that sticker as it voids your warranty. If you're installing a heatsink with it just put the thermal pad over that area without removing the sticker.

The only testing I did was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 first from a 7200rpm WD Black hard drive, which took 2 minutes and 16 seconds from clicking the icon until the time I could move my character in game. With Red Dead installed to this SN850X it takes about 1 minute and 11 seconds from icon click to being able to move character. So quite an improvement there.

Still the king of consumer Gen4 drives. Sequential speeds hit the advertised 7300/6600 every time, random performance is nuts, and it barely gets warm even under sustained writes. Already moved multiple terabytes of games and data in the first month – endurance is unreal. WD just doesn’t miss with the Black series. Buy it on sale and you won’t find anything faster for the price.

I have three of these NVME drives now in different capacities. I have two 2tb and one 4 TB.

This has been a FLAWLESS HD in all cases, while this particular model is my newest purchase. I replaced the Samsung drive in my Dell and this thing is so much faster booting up.

The others I have had for 4 years on the other 2TB, and the 4TB for about 2 years - no issues at all.

NO COMPLAINTS. Western Digital has continued to impress me since the first drive I purchased somewhere in the 90's. I have been purchasing their hard drives for over 20 years. Depending on what I want and the purpose, I absolutely will not use other brands because they stop performing over time faster than WD black. This is my personal experience, I have run no tests. However when I boot my Laptop and desktop in seconds vs competitors - and see that it takes more than double time I will not waste time to perform a test. I am that impatient, WD is my go to for speed, and longevity.

Coming from an HDD user, this thing is awesome! It's super easy to set up (just pop it in the NVMe slot on your motherboard and screw down; MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SCREWS, IT DOESN'T COME WITH THEM. Usually your motherboard will come with 'em.) I personally think it's a great bang for your buck since it's super quick (average use speeds about 3GB/s and with Game Mode on, it'll hit that marketed 7.3GB/s)

My only complaint is the software; it's quite the resource hog, but handy. It's the only way to be able to enable and configure game mode, but my it takes my CPU usage from sitting on the desktop from 14% to 100% (on a Ryzen 5 5500 with only Wallpaper Engine open.)

If you're worried about noise, throw the worry out the window. solid states (NVMe and SATA) make little to no noise, unlike hard drives.

All in all, I can definitely say money worth spent!

Solid (State ... hahahaha) little drive. Runs my CachyOS and all games perfectly.

I’m using the WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD for my local AI experiments and CUDA-based workloads, and it works like a charm. The read/write speeds are blazing fast — large model files load instantly, and data-intensive operations run smoothly without any lag.

It stays cool even during prolonged GPU sessions and handles high I/O operations effortlessly. Installation was quick, and the drive has been completely stable since day one. A rock-solid SSD that delivers top-tier performance for developers, creators, and power users alike.
