From last fall

Around my Birthday I wrote some poems. I'm still tinkering with this one, but I like it.

What’s that on your face?

“What’s that on your face, dear?”
A mother asked her son
He smiled at her with brilliant love
And answered with, “A kiss?”

She swooped down low
And touched her lips
To his cherubic cheek
And fits of giggles followed.

The years go by, the game forgot
A young teen cannot see
His mother’s kiss upon his cheek
Or the giggles it unleashed

One day I asked a mother
When she was tired from her day
“What’s that on your face, dear?”
she did not know what to say.

“I think it’s mine,” I coyly state
and lean in to her space
To giggle in her ear
And claim the kiss upon her face.
