New Fic, Essay & Update!

Hey everybody! Sorry! I feel like I have been kind of slow when it comes to LJ. But yeah... Here's what's new with me:

I signed up for an audition that is TOMORROW! It's for the school musical. They're doing "Hair" this year and I have no idea what I am doing. But yeah... If things weren't going to go badly enough, I've managed to get sick. So my voice is kind of messed up. But we are going to work on it later. I also managed to add a new Charmed fanfic!! Not one of my best, but it's better than nothing. Hopefully I will be able to start chapter 10 for my "Magic?" fic too! :D
I also wrote a rough draft of an essay. Now, I suuuuck at essays! But! I will post it anyway lol

My Essay:

¤They come in all shapes and sizes¤

I have a question for you. What do you think of when you hear the word "dogs"? Do you think of hot dogs, pets or something else? As for what I think when I hear the word "dog" or "dogs"; I think of companionship, cuteness and loyalty. I think of how many different dogs there are, what their talents are and how they have helped humans in so many ways for so long.

One of the events where dogs have helped humans in the past is way back in the 1925 Serum Run to Nome, also known as the "Great Race of Mercy". About one hundred and fifty dogs, along with their twenty mushers, traveled six hundred and seventy four miles by dog sled, transporting diphtheria antitoxin. They managed to travel across Alaska in a record-breaking five and a half days, saving the small city of Nome, along with the surrounding communities. This made both the mushers and the dogs heroes and this event also inspired the animated movie "Balto". The story of Balto is actually true, not only by the events, but there really was a dog named Balto on the team. He was in fact the lead dog on the final stretch into Nome, and quickly became the most famous canine of the era after Rin Tin Tin. Because of this historic event, Balto has recieved a statue of himself which is in Central Park. It is dedicated to all the dogs involved in the Serum Run, which also has it's honors since it became the most famous historic event in mushing. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race honors the history of mushing, and has many of the traditions from The Serum Run. Dogs are so strong in so many ways. They have muscles, willpower and love. As Mark Twain once said, “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.”

So, the story of Balto really happened, but it was ages ago. But it doesn't mean dogs don't still do sledding or help us humans in other ways. The most common jobs dogs have these days are police dogs, search and rescue dogs, lead dogs for blind people, along with several other things. As for activities you can do with a dog, there's several sports like Agility, Flyball, or even stuff like a show. But then there is of course the average housedog who helps anyone out just by being there. Dogs help us in so many ways, and so many people don't know it or don't understand it. They help us every day, in more ways than you can imagine. They help us by, for example, being police dogs and catching the bad guys. But, they can also be the best friend you've ever asked for. People often don't know how much their dog meant to them, so treasure every moment you have. As John Grogan said in Marley and Me; "A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his."

Have you ever wondered what the right dog for you is? It could be a very tough choice, considering there are so many dogs out there. They come in all shapes and sizes, and tons of breeds. The brightest idea when it comes to dog shopping or dog adopting, is probably reading up on the breed you are interested in. For example, if you are a skinny person with not very strong muscles, don't go out and get a St. Bernard. If it gets out of control, you will be pulled behind. And if you are a person who loves spending time on the couch, don't get a hyper and active Border Collie. If you just want to show your dog off and possibly gain some money, then I would suggest a poodle. However, almost any dog can be shown if they are purebred. Now, if you are looking for a family dog, I would first suggest a Golden Retriever. They are known for their gentle personalities and their love for family and children. There are about a million choices to make when you get a dog, because of the huge variety. And all these dogs are useful in so many ways, both physically and mentally. So, choosing a dog is a major decision, so if and when you choose; choose wisely. Milan Kundera once said "Dogs are our link to paradise." And I completely support him when it comes to that quote, because I believe that too.

So here's my final and ultimate question. Are dogs heroes? Or just the ones who did something amazing that was noticed by the media? As for my answer, I say yes. All dogs are heroes, because all dogs have probably helped someone in their life. Even if it is just by letting a little child pet them, or maybe it is sticking with their owner through the years, or it could even be when the dog stays by it's master until their master crosses over to the other side. There are heroes everywhere, no matter where you are. There are little heroes in all shapes and sizes, and they are known as dogs.
