B&W concert photo help

I am thinking about taking some photos this weekend of Marshall Crenshaw in concert and was looking to get some advice. The show will at an outdoor venue right around the time the sun is going down. My question is...with shooting black and white, would I be better off using a flash or just using the stage lights? Also, I'm assuming the stage lights will be multi-colored and was wondering should I use some sort of filter or shoot without a filter to get the best results? Any other help is appreciated.
