Kassie got a BA in inventing subtext.
06 September 2005 @ 12:21 am
Hi, I'm Kassie, I'm a new member, et cetera intro stuff. I'm still in high school, and would do more than I have been doing, but I'm rather limited by mobility issues (ie: no license yet) and the constrains of school.

However, I'm also one of the co-presidents of my school's Gay-Straight Alliance. We've had a one year hiatus, but we're back on, and before the hiatus, we worked with our school's student fine arts publication and Amnesty International chapter to put together the "coffee house" fundraiser (basically a mini-concert and poetry reading in our school's theatre area). Although we haven't discussed the idea yet (we haven't even had a meeting yet, since school just started...), there's probably going to be no issue with donating half the proceeds from the coffee house to help Hurricane Katrina aid groups, or setting up a separate donation basket or something along those lines.

Could anyone give me some ideas, ways to get in touch with people who could help with this, how to send donations, et cetera?

Good morning, C2A...

This is only Day 5. Look what you've done.
If you live in the Escambia/Santa Rosa areas of the panhandle, you'll be both surprised and glad to see that our little community has been featured on the Pensacola News Journal website. Check it out here: http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/NEWS01/50902021/1006

It's little, but hey, so are we.

In other news, THANK YOU guys so much because submissions for the Art Book are finally coming in. We have photos, poems, prose, drawings, and a few digital art submissions. I'm still hoping for some paintings, sculptures, personal accounts, & reactions to the media. Keep sending them in and know that multiple submissions are not only accepted, but APPRECIATED.

The Mix Tape benefit open submission is coming to a close tomorrow, so if you have a track, get it in today. We've put together a contract to protect the artists as well as C2A. Basically, it states that the artists retain the rights to their track and C2A, penniless as we are, penniless we are to remain. We're having it run by a lawyer sometime in the next few days and then production will be underway!

Also, I'd like to welcome to the spotlight, Amanda, aka punkrockpanda over there on Xanga. She's been putting tons of time and effort into getting the word out to musicians (she's so connected) for the Mix Tape and spreading C2A across the internet & bridging the gap between journal sites. She's brought us tons of recording artists from Myspace. I've added her to the moderator section because she's been working just as hard, even without an LJ. In all honesty, I wish I could have every single member's photo up...but that's a project that can wait. But know that you're appreciated!

Please keep posting your brainstorms and I'd like to see some more accounts of Volunteers in Action! Post if you've sent in donations, post if you volunteered, post whatever you've done...the fact that you're DOING SOMETHING serves as an incredible encouragement to us!

Keep up the good work, guys.
Do Something,
Nina@C2A

ICONS: These are the first 5 now 10 icons.  There will probably be more... but I'm not sure.  I have yet to browse through all the hundred of pictures so there will be more... especially if I end up doing a 100 icon challenge for this.  One of the mods suggested I post this, so here it is.

UTPA to Assist in Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American stands with the nation in expressing sorrow in this time of terrible tragedy in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. It is our understanding that colleges and universities in these devastated areas may take months to recover and rebuild and the University would like to offer a helping hand. UTPA is ready and willing to accept students from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on an emergency basis. This invitation is open to students who were enrolling or were enrolled in colleges and universities in the area of greatest disaster impact and are likely to remain closed for an extended period.

These emergency measures are temporary. Students will be accepted only for the fall semester if they contact us by Friday, Sept. 9, 2005.
Interested students should contact Dr. Maggie Williams, Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Services, 956/381-2482 or Dr. George Avellano, dean of the Graduate School and associate vice president for Academic Affairs, 956/381-3661.
Students need to advise us that they are from the affected schools and are seeking admission due to the emergency situation at their current campus.
UTPA administrators are committed to doing all we can to accommodate the admission of students who may be victims of this natural disaster. UTPA students who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina are also encouraged to contact the Dean of Students office at 956/381-2262 for any type of assistance.

Feel free to post this anywhere you think it might be useful.

Hey all,

I am selling buttons to help raise money to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Now, the proceeds that I raise by selling these buttons and magnets will be split in half. One half will go to assist the hurricane victims that are currently displaced and being housed all over the country. The other half will go directly to the rebuilding efforts once we are given the go ahead!
I will post donation reciepts during this process, as well as store reciepts for the buying of immediate needs of the displaced families in my area.
Please email me with any questions you might have.

And now, to the pertinent info!
Cost per button is only $2, and shipping is included in that cost!
For larger bulk orders, please email me at Baristabadgirl at hotmail dot com.
I have a paypal account, and a high feedback rating via Ebay so rest assured that trading is safe with me.
My paypal user id is the same as my email address listed above.
Please be sure to detail what items you are ordering and if desired a certain color of button(s).

And now, on to the goodies!!
