Amazon sells this machine as a gaming laptop. Nimo’s own store sells the same model to students. Both listings describe one computer: the Nimo N153, a 15.6-inch notebook built around AMD’s Ryzen 5 6600H.
That gap between the two descriptions is the whole review. The 6600H is a genuinely capable six-core chip. The graphics sitting next to it are integrated, not discrete, and the word “gaming” on the box does not change what a Radeon 660M can push. The photos, benchmark scores and hands-on observations below come from a unit we unboxed, set up and tested ourselves. Dimensions, warranty terms, colour options and prices are vendor figures, and they are labelled as such where it matters.
Our test unit shipped with Windows 11 Home, 16 GB of DDR5 and a 1 TB SSD. The Geekbench numbers, photos and observations are from that machine; the configurations, pricing and availability were re-checked in September 2026, together with the brand’s warranty terms and complaint record.
Is Nimo a good laptop brand?
Nimo is a real company shipping real hardware through Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and its own store, and the unit we tested matched the specification it was sold under. What you are buying is a components-first laptop from a small brand with a thin public support record. The parts are good for the money and the warranty terms beat the category norm. The company behind them is harder to check, and that is the real trade at this price.
Who makes Nimo laptops?
Nimo trades as NIMO Direct Inc. and lists a Delaware address at 51 Steel Dr Unit A, New Castle. Its own About page calls it “a 13-year U.S.-based company” and says the machines are produced by LUXSHARE, described there as “the same factory of MacBook and Apple Watch”, then “final assembled in the United States”. The Our Story page on the same site says “We are still a young company, but we are growing rapidly.” Those two claims do not sit together, and we found no independent documentation of the LUXSHARE relationship, so read the manufacturing story as marketing copy rather than a verified supply chain.
Distribution is easier to verify. Nimo laptops are listed at Best Buy and Walmart as well as Amazon and the direct store, which is wider shelf presence than most budget brands of this size manage. Check whose return policy actually applies before you buy, because a first-party listing and a marketplace listing carry different return handling even on the same retailer’s site.
What the Better Business Bureau record shows
The Better Business Bureau lists Nimo at that same New Castle address as a computer dealer, not accredited, rated F, carrying the line “Failure to respond to 5 complaint(s) filed against business” on the profile. The file was opened in May 2025. Read it for what it is rather than as a verdict on the hardware. An F earned by not answering BBB correspondence describes how the company handles that one channel, and plenty of legitimate small brands ignore the BBB entirely. It does tell you that if a dispute outlives Nimo’s own support desk, there is no public record of the company engaging with it.
Star ratings will not settle the question either. Nimo relists the same chassis often, so no single listing builds up much history: the three N153 listings we checked in September 2026 carried 11, 33 and 41 ratings. Nimo relists a chassis under fresh listings, and a new listing starts its review count over, so a low count often means a young listing rather than a weak product. An average built on a dozen reviews is noise. Judge the specification, the warranty and the retailer you buy from, in that order.
The full Nimo laptop lineup
The N153 sits low in a nineteen-model range that runs from an Intel N150 student machine to a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 workstation. The model numbers follow no obvious logic, and the 17.3-inch entries are generally the same platform in a larger chassis. Starting prices read from Nimo’s own store in August 2026:

One thing that last column hides matters more than any other line in it: every figure except the N152, N15A and Axis is a barebones price. Sixteen of the nineteen models advertise their headline number for a machine with no memory and no SSD fitted. Comparing a “from $239.99” Nimo against a configured laptop from anyone else is comparing a chassis to a computer.
The N158 is the model most N153 shoppers end up weighing against it: the same 15.6-inch body with a Ryzen 7 8745HS, eight cores and sixteen threads against the 6600H’s six and twelve, from $479.99 barebones. At the far end the Axis pairs a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 128 GB of unified memory behind a 16-inch 2560×1600 panel, the same silicon we measure in our Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PC comparison, at a price that puts it against workstations rather than budget laptops.
Is the Nimo N153 a real gaming laptop?
No, not in the sense most buyers mean. There is no discrete GPU in this chassis. Graphics come from the Radeon 660M built into the Ryzen 5 6600H: RDNA 2, six compute units, 384 shading units, 1500 MHz base and 1900 MHz boost, sharing system memory rather than carrying its own VRAM. Windows reported 486 MB allocated to graphics on our unit.
That puts it in a specific performance class. Esports titles at 1080p run fine. Older and lighter 3D games run fine. Modern AAA games need upscaling to reach even 30 fps. Independent testing of the 660M hit that mark in God of War at 1080p only with a custom mixed High and Low graphics preset plus FSR 2.0 set to Performance mode. FSR on Balanced dipped below 30. Buy this for CS2, Valorant, Rocket League and emulation. Do not buy it expecting Cyberpunk at high settings.
Where the N153 does earn the price is CPU work. Six cores and twelve threads at 4.5 GHz handle compilation, virtual machines, large spreadsheets and video encoding that budget 15-watt ultrabook chips choke on. It is a cheap workstation that happens to play light games, which is the opposite of how it is marketed.
What comes in the box
Nimo ships the N153 in recycled cardboard rather than a printed retail sleeve, which is the first sign of where the money went.

Packaging is unremarkable in the good way. The laptop sits in anti-static foam, wrapped in a translucent sleeve, with a separate accessory box underneath. Nothing arrived loose or scuffed.

The charger deserves a mention because it is the one accessory that changes how you travel. It is a 100W USB-C power delivery brick, not a barrel-plug adapter. The same charger tops up a phone, a tablet or a second USB-C laptop, so one brick covers the bag. The plug on our unit is US two-pin, so buyers outside North America need an adapter or a local cable.
Build, keyboard and ports
Nimo advertises a metal top cover, and the lid on our unit felt like metal. Nothing in the listings claims metal for the rest of the body. It looks considerably more expensive than it is.

The chassis measures 14.07 x 8.98 x 0.76 inches, a figure that matches across Nimo’s spec table and all the retail listings. Weight is less consistent: Nimo’s spec table says 3.7 pounds, the Amazon listing bullets say 3.75 pounds, and Nimo’s own marketing paragraph on the same page claims 4.4 pounds. We did not put the unit on a scale, so treat roughly 3.7 pounds as the figure to plan around and read the 4.4 as copywriting. Either way it is average for a 15.6-inch machine. The lid flexes if you grip a corner, which is normal at this price and worth knowing before you pack it under books.

The panel is a 1920×1080 IPS screen. Viewing angles hold up, colour is fine for documents and video, and it is matte enough to survive a bright room. It is not a colour-accurate display, so treat photo and video grading as approximate on it. Our unit struggled to play heavier 4K files smoothly, which is a limit of the machine rather than of the panel. More on what is likely causing that below.

Two details on the deck matter day to day. The keyboard includes a full numeric keypad, which is the reason a lot of spreadsheet and accounting users pick a 15.6-inch machine at all. The fingerprint reader is embedded in the top-left corner of the trackpad rather than in the power button, so Windows Hello sign-in works without reaching for a separate sensor. There is also a dedicated Copilot key next to the right Ctrl.
Ports are the one area where our 2025 unit and the machines on sale today differ, so check before you order. The unit we tested carried three USB Type-A (two USB 3.0, one USB 2.0), a single USB Type-C, HDMI, microSD and a headphone jack. Current Amazon listings for the same model advertise two full-function Type-C ports carrying power delivery, DisplayPort and data on both, alongside HDMI 2.0 and USB Type-A. That is a meaningful upgrade if you drive external monitors.
On the unit we tested, the slow USB 2.0 Type-A port was the honest weak spot. Plug an external SSD into it by mistake and you will wonder why your external drive backups crawl. Current listings advertise USB 3.2 on the Type-A side without breaking down which port is which, so check the port markings on arrival rather than assuming every socket is fast.
Wireless is the specification most likely to date this machine. Nimo lists Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) with Bluetooth 5.2, not Wi-Fi 6. On a laptop selling above $500 in 2026 that is a real compromise, and at least one Amazon buyer review calls it out directly. If your access point is Wi-Fi 6 or newer, this laptop will not use it.
The configuration we tested
Specifications on a listing are a claim. What the operating system reports after setup is the fact, so that is what we recorded first.

Windows reported 15.2 GB usable out of 16 GB. Only 486 MB of that shortfall is the graphics allocation shown in the same panel; the rest is ordinary hardware-reserved memory. Memory ran at 4800 MHz, which is the DDR5 speed the Rembrandt platform expects. Storage showed 932 GB formatted, the normal presentation of a 1 TB SSD.

Both the memory and the storage are user-serviceable, and that is the single most useful thing to know before ordering. Buying the cheapest configuration and adding your own DDR5 memory or a larger NVMe SSD is usually cheaper than paying Nimo for the upgrade, provided you are comfortable opening the bottom panel and accept what that does to a warranty claim.
Geekbench 6 results
We ran Geekbench 6 on the unit as delivered, with the stock Windows 11 Home image and no tuning. Scores below are from that run.

The important line here is the maximum frequency. AMD rates the 6600H at 4.5 GHz boost and Geekbench recorded 4535 MHz on our unit, so the chip does reach its rated clock in this chassis. Read that as a peak, not a verdict on cooling: it is a single maximum-frequency reading, we did not log sustained clocks or temperatures, and heat is one of the recurring complaints in Nimo owner reviews.

Single-core came in at 2047. The subtest spread is worth reading rather than the headline number: Background Blur at 2848 and Horizon Detection at 2831 sit far above Object Detection at 1110. Imaging and photo work benefit from this chip more than machine-learning inference does.

Multi-core reached 8720, a 4.3x gain over single-core across six cores and twelve threads. Ray Tracer at 15488 and Asset Compression at 13630 scaled best. Text Processing at 2605 barely moved from its 2063 single-core result, a 1.26x gain, because that subtest scales poorly rather than because it runs on one thread. Clang at 12098 is the number to look at if you compile code, and it is the result that justifies calling this a budget development machine.
One caveat on these scores. This is a single pass on a fresh Windows install with nothing else competing for the CPU, which is the best case rather than the average case. Published aggregate scores for the 6600H vary widely between databases, so compare against the Geekbench browser results for this chip rather than treating one run as definitive.
Where it holds up and where it does not
Office work never troubled it. Spreadsheets, documents, presentations and a browser with a heavy tab count ran without stutter on 16 GB. Windows 11 Home handled package installs through winget without complaint. For the money, the CPU is the story.
The honest limits are these. Heavy 4K files stuttered on our unit. Rembrandt does carry hardware decode for H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1, so that is an observation about this machine with the software we ran rather than proof of a missing decoder, and a different player or codec path may well fix it. The 660M is an integrated GPU and behaves like one, so GPU-bound work such as 3D rendering or local AI inference is out of scope; a machine with discrete graphics is a different purchase, and our notes on running local models on small hardware cover why VRAM is the binding constraint there. And 16 GB is the floor rather than the target if you intend to run virtual machines.
Battery is 53.58 Wh and Nimo rates it at 9 hours of mixed use. That is a vendor figure and we did not run a controlled battery test, so treat it the way you would treat any manufacturer runtime claim. Owner reviews consistently report short runtime under load, which is what a 45-watt H-series chip in a 53 Wh chassis implies. Thin speakers and charger reliability are the other two complaints that recur, and Nimo surfaces all four on its own product page.
One more limit that is easy to miss: this is a Windows machine and Nimo publishes no Linux support. The Rembrandt platform is well supported by current kernels, so a mainstream distribution will install, but you are on your own for firmware and driver issues. Which configuration to buy
Nimo restructured the configurator since this review first ran, and the entry point is now a barebones unit: $339.99 for the chassis with no memory and no SSD, against a $469.99 list. Buying the parts from Nimo costs more than it used to. 16 GB with a 512 GB SSD is $579.99, the 16 GB and 1 TB pairing we tested is $649.99, 32 GB with 1 TB is $799.99, and a 64 GB, 2 TB build tops out at $1,299.99. A back-to-school promotion was running when we checked, so treat every one of those figures as a moving target.
The barebones option is the one worth thinking about. This review already recommended buying the cheapest configuration and fitting your own memory and storage, and Nimo now sells that path directly. At $339.99 you are paying for the chassis, panel, keyboard and 6600H, then supplying DDR5 and an NVMe drive at retail prices. Nimo bundles Adata memory and Kingston or WD drives on the configured builds, so the parts you would fit yourself are the same class of components. It also settles the warranty question the upgrade route usually raises, because a barebones machine cannot boot until you open it.
Amazon carries the same Ryzen 5 6600H platform under several configurations at prices that move independently of the direct store, so compare both. Note that Nimo has revised the chassis since our 2025 unit: the current listings add a second full-function Type-C port. The specifications, ratings and listing status below were re-checked in September 2026, with US buy-box availability confirmed on all three listings from a US session. Prices still move between the direct store and Amazon, so check the live figure before you commit.

Two cautions on the Amazon listings. Nimo relists this chassis often under slightly different titles, so several ASINs for the same laptop carry only a handful of reviews; the 512 GB default above carries only eleven, so its average rests on very little. Check the review count, not just the star rating. Older listings also go dead without warning, so if a link lands on “Currently unavailable” the product is not discontinued, that particular listing is.
Who the N153 suits
Buy it if you want six real cores, 16 GB of DDR5 and a 1 TB SSD for the money most brands charge for a four-core ultrabook with 8 GB soldered in. Students, developers on a budget, anyone compiling or running spreadsheets, and anyone who wants upgradeable memory and storage in 2026 are all served well here. The 2-year warranty and 90-day return window are better than the category norm.
Skip it if you took the word “gaming” in the Amazon listing literally, if you need colour-accurate output, or if you want a machine that plays 4K without stuttering. Those buyers want discrete graphics, and that is a different budget.
