Our degu family recently grew by three, so we decided it was time to update their living situation. They used to have a large tank, and we've now replaced it with two big leveled cages, conjoined, with a divider in between so the family doesn't grow anymore. They seem to like the upgrade, but they've taken to chewing the bejeezus out of the bars, particularly at night. It's a horrible sound, and we've tried more than a few things to get them to stop. What do you gusy do,or suggest, to keep your critters from chewing at the bars of thier cages?
And I've already tried a bitter spray I researched online. It worked for a few days, then I guess they just got over the bad taste and were right back at the chewing again.
