Is the "Demmed Elusive" community in hibernation?

annagallis — Thu, 06 Mar 2014 21:26:22 GMT

Hello all,
I haven't visited the page for a long time myself, but no-one seems to have posted anything to Demmed Elusive for ages. Is it dormant? Or dead? I hope not - I was enjoying it!

Scarlet Pimpernel Sequels (Books)

dweomeroflight — Sun, 11 Nov 2012 02:59:11 GMT

Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad I found and joined this community! I've been obsessed with The Scarlet Pimpernel ever since I saw the rather disliked A and E version. I shamelessly enjoyed it so I went and read the book. My Mum found the DVD a few years back and bought it as a family present, and somewhat ironically, seeings as that version is wildly inaccurate to the book, I still shamelessly enjoy it. Old loves die hard and all of that.

Also, Martin Shaw as Chauvelin was one of my first ever childhood actor terrors. He was a terrifying villain because he was so smart but also so conflicted. I really liked that element of the A and E version. Well, to be honest I like all of it. It's not remotely accurate to the books but there's just something about it that I love in an AU fan fic kind of way.

Anyway, I just discovered that the sequel books are free on kindle and I am reading them in published order. I am up to The Elusive Pimpernel. I am just wondering which books in the series are everyone's favourites?

Also, I know that the Chauvelin/Marguerite/Sir Percy triangle was inserted into the films later, but I kind of would love to know how Marguerite met Chauvelin and got involved with him romantically in the context of the 80s and 90s versions. Has anyone written any fan fic of this?

Thank you :)

Challenge me!

madeleinestjust — Mon, 30 Apr 2012 14:32:13 GMT

Not meaning to sound massively egotistical - a la Armand in Eldorado (me! me! me!) - but I have just returned to the Pimpernel fold after a weary leave of absence of, ooh, two years or so (betraying the Baroness with Jane Austen, I'm afraid). I have been easing myself back into the fandom, with a viewing of the 1934 film and a re-re-re-re-reading of Eldorado on Kindle (woot! for House of Stratus!), but would love to sink my teeth into writing more fan fiction.

However, I'm totally stuck for inspiration, so any ideas are welcome, please! Have you a certain scene, or pairing, or perspective, that you would like to read about? (I know fresh SP plot bunnies are a rare breed!) The more 'out there', or non-purist, the better - yes, I'm being daring! I have dabbled with smut!fic, character death, first person, etc., in the past, so anything goes.

I can't promise you will love what I produce, but I would love to start writing SP stories again.

OBC Video?

jareth_cohen — Tue, 27 Mar 2012 22:13:09 GMT

Good evening,

I know it's rude to show up and ask for something, but I'm at my wits end. I've never seen the Broadway version of Pimpernel, only the movie, and I'm dying to see it. Would anyone happen to know of a way that is possible? I've only found recordings in bootleg trading communities, and I have nothing to offer. (Never much of a trader, and the little I had died with MegaUpload.)

Thought if anyone might know, you folks would be a good place to start. You could gain a Philadelphian's undying devotion.

HELP: Fan fic and the resources of an icon

lisab1991 — Sun, 26 Jun 2011 10:44:00 GMT

Hi guys,
I've been a member of this community for quite some time now, but never actually posted anything to this community. So let's properly introduce myself first. I'm Lisa, twenty years of age and I live in the Netherlands. I'm a big fan of the books, movies and musical versions of the Pimpernel. I'm collecting as many stuff there is around, like icons, images, fanfiction, etcetera.
I hope you can help me out with two things..

I've read some Pimpernel related fanfiction a while ago, and I really liked a certain story. I don't remember the name of it or anything, normally I save fanfictions I like to my favourites, but it turns out that this time I didn't. It's set during The Scarlet Pimpernel, where Percy has a nightmare: Marguerite dies on the guillotine. Afraid that this might be true, he rushes to Marguerite's bedchamber; where he finds her sleeping. She awakes and shocked by his grief, she tells him the whole true story about the denouncement of the Marquis de St. Cyr, and they reconcile. I can't find it anymore, perhaps you know where I can find it?

Plus, some time ago, I saved this icon to my harddrive:

I would love to have the original image of this, to use it in a new Pimpernel wallpaper of mine. I've contacted the very talented person who made this (I believe it was lady boromir) some time ago, but she didn't have it anymore and advised me to ask here. I decided to search further before asking your help, it'd be foolish to ask for help when there's a possibility it's laughing me in the face without me knowing it. It turns out it's not easy to find, so I hope someone in this community has it. Could anyone tell me where I can find it, or could anyone send it to me?

I really hope you can help me out. Mostly I'm after the image used in the icon, but any help is more than welcome! Thanks in advance, and it's a pleasure to be a member of such a great community!

Pimpernel T-Shirt

travelinjen — Tue, 14 Jun 2011 01:34:30 GMT

Back in the day when The Scarlet Pimpernel musical was on Broadway, there was a group of fans who came together known as "The League." Someone designed and made up special shirts with a list of inside jokes relating to the show and the actors involved. I've held on to mine for quite a while, but I put in on Ebay last week. For some reason, I can't post the direct link anywhere, but if you search under Scarlet Pimpernel Musical Douglas Sills, you should be able to find it. Its up for about two more days.

Fanfics

2catsrock — Fri, 06 May 2011 01:21:54 GMT

I am a die hard Scarlet Pimpernel fan. I read the book and many of its sequels, not to mention the movies, tv show, and parts of the musical.

Does anyone know any really good Scarlet Pimpernel fics??? Preferably about Percy and Marguerite.

I've been attempting to write a real post on this for a couple minutes, but since my brain refuses to grammar right now, I'll just cut to the friggin' chase:

What are the things that you believe a quality Pimpernel screen adaptation must (or must not) change/include/just do in general? We've done some dreamcasting here, but I don't know that we've discussed this in particular (or, if we have, please point it out to me, it's been a while). Casting's fun and all, but they could get the living embodiment of Percy Blakeney and it wouldn't mean squat if they wreck everything else.

Thoughts?

Alert alert!

Commence dream casting, again. :P

Some sad Pimpernel '82-related news: British film director Clive Donner dies at 84.

A bit of more upbeat news, not directly Pimpernel related: Leslie Howard personal film footage found by documentary-maker.

From The New York Times

kiffie — Fri, 16 Jul 2010 21:59:21 GMT

A fairly scathing review from the NY Times, with many unkind words about the stage production.

It does include a nice photo of Fred Terry, though!

http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9C06E5D9163EE233A25757C0A96E9C946697D6CF

Everything said here was repeated again nearly a century later, when the musical ran on Broadway. And yet, this was after dozens more books, multiple movies, and, of course, Fred Terry's delightfully-long run as Sir Percy.

Critics, regardless of the time period, just don't seem to get it.

1955 tv series

mellifluous_ink — Mon, 12 Jul 2010 05:29:00 GMT

1. Has anyone seen the 1955 tv series version of the Scarlet Pimpernel? Is it worth pursuing?

2. I just realised how appropriate my icon is to Sir Percy. XD

3. Would anyone be interested in a vampire chronicles fic where Sir Percy is basically the master vampire of London? I ask because I'm currently working on one.

Fan fiction community

literary_fic Hi! I hope this is allowed here. If anybody is bothered, let me know and I'll be sure to delete.

I've just created a new community for sharing fan fiction based on classic works of literature. It needs new members, and I'd be very happy to see some Scarlet Pimpernel fic posted.

Broadwayverse is an interactive competition encompassing all Broadway-related theatre. Members are sorted into teams and then participate in games and challenges, such as writing fic, making graphics, and solving puzzles. Some of the challenges involve skill, but most of them are participation and/or luck based, so everyone and anyone can join in the fun. Points are awarded at the end of each challenge, and the team with the highest number of points at the end of the phase wins.

Takarazuka -- Again!

kiffie — Mon, 10 May 2010 05:24:25 GMT

According to the intertubes, Takarazuka will once again be performing The Scarlet Pimpernel as part of their lineup!

This time around, it will be performed by the Moon Troupe and starring Kiriya Hiromu as Percy, Aono Yuki as Marguerite, and Ryuu Masaki/Asumi Rio as Chauvelin (they appear to be alternating the part, with Asumi Rio also playing an alternate for Armand).

Now, here's the interesting part for those of us not able to get to Japan: if the TakaWiki is to be believed, there will be a DVD release of the performace come June of this year. Considering the last one was short-printed and very expensive, maybe this one will be easier to get ahold of for those of us on the other side of the ocean.

And, on a similar note, a reminder for us in the Western US: the Hale Center Theatre in Utah will be putting on the musical again this year, starting in October. If you're the traveling sort, make plans!

...this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

So, does someone who actually understands this (unlike me, who only speaks English) care to shed a little light on what in the world is going on here?

For the curious, the rest is up on YouTube.
