On 28 February, 2026, Israel and the United States launched a coordinated joint attack on multiple sites in Iran, sparking a major conflict. The operation, codenamed Operation Roaring Lion and Operation Epic Fury by the U.S. Department of Defense, targeted senior Iranian officials, military command centers, and key strategic facilities, with the declared aim of regime change. The attack included the assassination of Iran’s second Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

The strikes began in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah. I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so.

Many of these Ships are running low on food, and everything else necessary for large scale crews to stay on board in a healthy and sanitary manner. But with Trump, there is no bottom and he showed it by also posting to his Truth Social account that somehow this war is okay because we are not losing as many troops as we did in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan or Korea.
    I guess until there is a magic number to be hit of American war dead, we are supposed to think Trump is doing a great job. Or maybe deaths in Iraq or Afghanistan count more because he didn’t start those conflicts. If any more troops are killed (and I hope to God they aren’t any more casualties) will they also not count as dying in the war we are in, even though they are killed by the country we are in a war with?
  • Look, every politician uses military service members as props. You don’t have to be a cynic to know that it is true. But it seems that we are in a new era of American politics where we are scrubbing names from casualty lists, not being upfront about injuries, and pretending that the war you started isn’t a real war unless things are going well.
    Trump has a history of disrespect toward the military. We all know about his comments about late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). We didn’t care when he insulted a Gold Star mother. We claimed it was fake news when a decorated general accused Trump of calling the war dead “suckers and losers.” We made excuses when his campaign clashed with Arlington Cemetery staff so that he could get in a campaign photo op while standing and smiling over a soldier’s grave.
    Every veteran was angry and distraught over the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, especially when an attack at the Abbey Gate killed 13 U.S. service members who were helping with Afghan evacuations. I was beyond furious with the Biden administration over those deaths. But I and other vets noticed that Republicans from the top on down seemed to focus only on those deaths. And they seemed pretty quiet on everyone else killed in Afghanistan over the 20-plus year conflict.
    I guess getting into a forever war that kills thousands of Americans is okay, but ending it badly isn’t? Or we have learned to focus only on the casualties that make our opponents look bad. There was no doubt President Joe Biden deserved criticism of his handling of the Afghan withdrawal. He might not have negotiated the deal, but he was the commander in chief at the time and it was his responsibility, including the casualties that happened during that time.
    That responsibility is now Trump’s. He seems to be shirking it, because it is making him look bad. Maybe the Pentagon will change course and add those names back. But the fact that they did this in the first place is a disgrace.

  • In the early hours of President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran, Tehran targeted a makeshift tactical operations center in Kuwait, killing six U.S. military personnel and injuring more than 30 others. Not only did the Department of Defense fail to provide the personnel stationed there with the necessary tools to defend themselves, but multiple servicemembers who were injured in the attack say their government also neglected them in the aftermath. The Associated Press spoke to a group of nine servicemembers who all claim that the U.S. military’s medical system failed them after they were injured in the deadly attack on March 1.
  • One group was not evacuated out of Kuwait for 10 days after the attack, including Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rodney Bearman, who had shrapnel embedded in his face and legs. When the soldiers were eventually evacuated, they were strapped to the floor of a cargo plane and taken to Germany. When the group arrived, Bearman said he learned that the military had not documented them as wounded in combat, so they would not receive medical treatment at Landstuhl. Bearman told the AP they were not documented as wounded in combat due to a coding error.
    “Never did I think that if I was wounded that these things would happen,” said Bearman. “Some sacred trust that I thought would never be broken was broken.”
  • The military also failed to provide timely evaluations of the soldiers. Some soldiers told AP they they only learned they had Traumatic Brain Injuries after they returned back to the United States. Many of the troops who spoke to AP did not know the severity of their own TBIs. “It’s disappointing but not surprising,” said Dr. James Kelly, chief medical scientist at the Invisible Wounds Foundation, a group that studies brain injuries in the military. “In a war scenario, it goes on a fair bit.”
    It seems that the Department of Defense’s failing medical system is the system working as it was designed: the Pentagon has shuttered large military hospitals in the Middle East and regularly redeploy troops after they receive a mild TBI diagnosis.
    The Pentagon downplayed the severity of the retaliatory strike, and U.S. Central Command initially claimed that only five servicemembers had been seriously wounded. The day after it happened, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the deadly strike in Kuwait “a squirter,” and later complained that reporting on the troops killed was a ploy to make the president look bad.
