Desolate Highways
spent my 4th of July weekend travelling the lonely roads of the california and arizona deserts. for the most part, these deserted 2-lane highways provide nothing but a sense of lonliness in the vastness of the desert, but every so often one finds an abandoned shanty home to explore; a glimpse into a life that took a turn for the worst.
one thing to note about these small places, many of which were in a very bad state of decay, was that they all contained a range [stove/oven] Even if there were no other furnishings, there was always some rusty overturned range. Old mattresses are also common.
one particular place [see photos here] still contained mementos from the previous owners; checkbook receitps, photographs, catalogs, a busted TV.
does anybody have a similiar desolate highway story to share?
