ABOUT THE SHOW
“Extra” kicks off Season 33 with the return of Emmy® Award winner, New York Times bestselling author, and “Dancing with the Stars” judge Derek Hough, who is back for his second season as host.
“Extra” enters the new season with three 2026 Daytime Emmy® Award nominations, including Outstanding Entertainment News Series, Outstanding Daytime Personality (Derek Hough, Mona Kosar Abdi, and Terri Seymour), and Outstanding Editing. The series has previously earned 12 consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Entertainment News Program, winning the category in 2014 and again in 2016.
Following a standout debut season, Hough delivered a string of headline-making interviews with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Dwayne Johnson, Margot Robbie, Eddie Murphy, Julia Roberts, Noah Wyle, and many more. He also scored “Extra” exclusives inside Sharon Stone’s home and behind the scenes of Jennifer Lopez’s private rehearsals for her upcoming music projects.
Supporting Hough is a powerhouse correspondent team led by New York-based Senior Correspondent and Weekend Host Mona Kosar Abdi and Los Angeles Correspondent Terri Seymour. Both are red-carpet mainstays known for breaking entertainment news and conducting memorable one-on-one interviews from film premieres and award shows to major cultural events such as the Met Gala.
The team is hitting the ground running with upcoming interviews featuring Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughey, Jay-Z, Helen Mirren, Charlie Hunnam, Anne Hathaway, Teddi Mellencamp, and Ariana Madix.
Under longtime Executive Producer Jeremy Spiegel, “Extra” continues to evolve across both broadcast and digital platforms.
Season 33 introduces several new franchises and segments, including “The Extra Confessional,” where celebrities step into a podcast-style setting to answer rapid-fire questions and play games, and “The Extra Breakdown,” a recurring segment featuring expert guests who join Hough and Kosar Abdi to provide analysis and fresh perspectives on the day’s biggest entertainment headlines.
In another new franchise, Hough will take viewers inside celebrity trailers and exclusive backstage spaces, from the set of “Dancing with the Stars” to the iconic Warner Bros. Studio lot.
The new season also coincides with the 25th anniversary of September 11, marked by a special episode featuring new interviews with “Extra” journalists who covered the attacks, along with rare footage documenting how members of the “Extra” team helped survivors evacuate lower Manhattan by boat across the Hudson River.
“Extra” is cleared in more than 95% of U.S. television households through partnerships with Fox Television Stations, Nexstar Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group, TEGNA, Hearst Television, Scripps, Gray Media, Sunbeam Television, CBS stations, and numerous other broadcast groups nationwide.
