Michael Soren Madsen (25. syyskuuta 1957 Chicago, Illinois, Yhdysvallat – 3. heinäkuuta 2025 Malibu, Kalifornia, Yhdysvallat) oli yhdysvaltalainen näyttelijä. Hän esiintyi muun muassa elokuvissa Thelma ja Louise (1991), Reservoir Dogs (1992), Kuolema saa odottaa (2002), Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003), Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004), Sin City (2005) ja Strength and Honour (2007). Hän näytteli myös 24-sarjan kahdeksannella tuotantokaudella Jackin vanhaa tuttavaa James ”Jim” Rickeriä.

Elämä ja ura

Michael Madsen syntyi Chicagossa 1957. Hänen äitinsä Elaine oli elokuvantekijä ja kirjailija ja hänen isänsä Calvin Christian oli palomies. Michaelilla oli kaksi siskoa Cheryl ja Oscar-ehdokkaanakin ollut, näyttelijä, Virginia. Elaine ja Calvin Madsen erosivat, kun Michael oli 11.

Madsen aloitti uransa Chicagossa Steppenwolf Theatre Companyssa, missä hän sai tukea muun muassa John Malkovichilta. Hän esiintyi Chicagossa muun muassa Hiiriä ja ihmisiä -tuotannossa. Hän näytteli 1982 sarjassa Sairalaan syke ja teki samana vuonna ensiesiintymisensä elokuvissa poliisin roolissa elokuvassa Sotaleikit.

Madsenin kansainvälinen läpimurto oli Quentin Tarantinon debyyttielokuva Reservoir Dogs (1992), missä hän esitti erittäin julmaa rikollista Mr. Blondea. Madsen olisi halunnut saada Mr. Pinkin roolin, joka meni kuitenkin Steve Buscemille. Madsen kieltäytyi Vincent Vegan roolista Tarantinon elokuvassa Pulp Fiction – Tarinoita väkivallasta (1994). Osa meni lopulta John Travoltalle, ja Madsen näytteli otti sen sijaan gangsteri Sonny Blackia Donnie Brascossa.

Madsen palasi Tarantinon ohjaukseen elokuvissa Kill Bill: Volume 1 ja Volume 2, joissa hän näytteli palkkamurhaaja Buddia, joka on Uma Thurmanin hahmon ”Morsiamen” varhaisia kohteita. Madsen on The Hateful Eightissä (2015) hiljainen karjapaimen Joe Gage ja Once Upon a Time in Hollywoodissa (2019) fiktiivisen televisiosarjan sheriffi Hackett.

Madsen näytteli Internet Movie Databasen mukaan 346 elokuvassa ja sarjassa. Tarantinon elokuvien lisäksi hän esiintyi muun muassa elokuvissa The Doors, Free Willy – Pelastakaa Willy, Peto, Kuolema saa odottaa, Sin City ja Scary Movie 4. Madsen näytteli usein salaperäisiä ja letkauttelevia kovanaamoja.

Yksityiselämä

Madsen oli kolme kertaa naimisissa: Jeannine Bisiganon, Georganne LaPieren ja vuodesta 1996 De Anna Morganin kanssa. Madsenilla oli yhteensä viisi lasta, kaksi Bisiganon ja kolme viimeisen vaimonsa kanssa.
