Seen in Dunfermline

An attractively-kept garden at the foot of Townhill Road, Dunfermline, on 1st October, 2026. If I had a house with a small garden area, I would probably do something like this with it.

I've noticed this oddly-named alley between two blocks of terraced houses in Appin Crescent on recent bus journeys, and was intrigued by its name. I passed it on my walk today and decided to take a closer look.

In fact, Piggies Lane doesn't lead to anywhere interesting. It's just a narrow footpath that runs from Appin Crescent, between the gables, to a car park (behind the camera). The site of the car park used to be occupied by the Dunfermline Branch of the Edinburgh & Northern Railway on its way to Dunfermline Upper Station, along with a locomotive depot (Townhill Shed), so the lane may have had a more important purpose in the past. But why would it be called 'Piggies Lane'?
