Presidential Cabinet Secretary. A native of Englewood, New Jersey, he served as the United States Secretary of Commerce under President Lyndon B. Johnson, from June 14, 1967 to March 1, 1968. A veteran of World War II, and the Korean War, he was a graduate of the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, in 1947, and Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. He also worked with reconstruction efforts including the International Intern Program of the United Nations in Lake Success, New York, and was a successful oilman between 1954 and 1965. After resigning as the Secretary of Commerce in 1968, he went into business, and headed the National Association of Manufacturing from 1981 to 1989. Trowbridge passed away from dementia, at the age of 76.
