I took the "two birds with one stone" approach this past week and headed down to the Dash-In one evening to check out the revamped downtown restaurant that Dustin Vice and his co-investors have taken over management of and to also attend a "meet-n-greet" with Joe Zimmerman, a photographer/artist who I've known for several years and just recently purchased a contemplative piece from:

The Dash-In at night is less frenzied than it is during urban lunchtime and design changes, specifically to the large, rear room, have eliminated a harsh, stark environment and have created a subtle, more welcoming atmosphere. Dustin is encouraged by the evening crowd and is optimistic that the Dash, which hasn't been open in the evenings for years, will benefit from a renewed interest in downtown Fort Wayne. If I lived downtown, I would probably be there a lot; it's atmosphere is conducive to conversations over coffee or beer and as Dustin will quickly -and proudly- point out, there's great food to be had there in the evenings, now!

There's interesting art there, also. In a style similar to Henry's monthly gallery displays, the walls were the stage for some definite 'conversation piece' works. This included Joe's work, which I might add, was selling at an appreciated pace.

Food, drink, music, art, words. And shelter director Ann Averill says that's not what she wants.

"We really don't want to euthanize any of them if we can help it," Averill says.

But soon that won't be a choice and even this week some have already been put down. Recently the shelter saw a 30 percent increase in the dog population. Some picked up on the side of the road...others simply left outside.

"We find them tied to the trailer and just roaming around outside the shelter. Our numbers are defiantly up," Averill says

A new addition to the shelter is Venus. She is a yellow lab mix and was recently abandoned and needs a great home. "She is an excellent dog, she makes a great pet for any family, she seems to like kids...she's house broken," Harrison says

The process is fun and even easy on the wallet.

Adoption fees are just forty dollars. If the dog is not spayed or neutered, the shelter will pay for the procedure at one of the local veterinarians. Another perk, the shelter is running a special where they'll give you a brand new leader leash. You can even bring in your other pets for a meet and greet.

The shelter is also in need of all donations, including dog and cat food, litter, hay or straw for bedding and cash donations to help with medical expenses.

The Dearborn County Animal Shelter is located at 11681 County Farm Road, Aurora, Indiana 47001 or you can visit the website at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/IN186.html

Apparently there is a service in Fort Wayne called Bar-B-Cutie. I only know this because their van almost ran into me. It would have hit me if I wouldn’t of slammed on my breaks at the last moment.
Since their number and website where plastered over the back of the van, I decided to call them. Surely the manager would want to know that they have a dangerous driver.
First, what happened? I was driving Washington center in the lane to turn on coldwater. (Right past the Wal-Mart entrance.) The van came out of the Arby’s parking lot and crossed 4 lanes stopping a few feet from my car. My girlfriend yelled and I slammed on my breaks. Luckily I didn’t hit the van.
What did they say when I called? The lady on the phone told me that the driver does not represent the company. She asked me what I would like her to do. I told her to tell the manager. She then responded that the driver was the manager.
So here I am. The manager drives recklessly and the company doesn’t care. I’m never going to use a service that behaves in this way and I’m recommending that everyone else avoid them as well.

if anyone can point me in the right direction....
im trying to find a rental home for my family; husband, myself, and 3 daughters. also have a boxer, who is 5. well trained etc.
We want to find a home in between ft. wayne and Huntington Indiana. prefer being closer to huntington as we are moving up there to take care of a family member of mine who lives in Huntington. Mine and my husbands jobs are transfering to ft.wayne.
i cannot find shite online about huntington. not even a number to call for a property manager.
i might just suck at google right now but im starting to think there is just nothing available.
We do want a site that has photos on it, or a number to call or something ? anything?
i know nothnig about ft. wayne either, so any areas i should avoid or look for would be good information for me. any info would be nice actually.
we are planning on moving in early to mid jan, and looking for a 3 bedroom at least home.
have a budget of 900 ish but the cheaper the better.
thank you in advance

The decree came a little late as the film had already been distributed around the world. Now in the public doman, Nosferatu, is considered a horror film classic and makes a fitting compliment to other Halloween festivities being offered in Fort Wayne this fall.

Just a word of warning, though, this vampire is nowhere near the classy (albeit deadly) representation that Bela Lugosi successfully stereotyped in his 1931 film. Nosferatu takes vampires to a new, rodent-like low. But hey, it's still fun and with James on the pipe organ, it should make for a unique seasonal experience.

Nosferatu
The Embassy Theatre
Saturday, October 25 at 7PM
$7 adults, $4 students
