Bloatynosy 1.02.142 (Shelf)

@Belim Belim released this 25 Oct 19:30

Origin shipped with a catalogue baked into two text files and no way to grow it. This release is about that: the catalogue can update itself now, and anyone can hand you a pack of extra tweaks without anyone building a new exe. The interface got a pass too, because a list of checkboxes deserves to look like Windows 11

What's in this release

  • The OEM debloater. Bloatynosy now reads the classic desktop programs too, out of the same three uninstall locations the Control Panel reads, and it knows the difference between a trial your laptop's maker was paid to preinstall and a driver you need. McAfee, Norton, Avast, AVG, WildTangent, Booking.com, ExpressVPN, Keeper, CyberLink, Nitro PDF, WPS Office and Candy Crush are named as candidates. Visual C++, the .NET runtimes, Intel chipset and Management Engine, Realtek, NVIDIA and AMD drivers are protected and can't be ticked at all
  • Plugins: tweak packs you install and delete. Theres a shelf of extra tweaks now, and it opens from the toolbar next to the search box. A plugin is a text file and nothing else: installing one puts an .ini in your data folder, removing one deletes it again. No installer, no registry of what you have, no uninstall logic that can get it wrong. Nothing in a plugin is ever executed, and you can read the whole thing in Notepad before you trust it.
  • A catalogue that updates itself. Settings has a button that fetches the current catalogue from the repo. New entries show up on the next check. You no longer have to wait for a release to get a fix to one line of text.
  • A packs panel that behaves like a browser's. It hangs under the icon you pressed with the edges flush, dims the window behind it, and follows the window when you move it. It isn't modal, so you can keep working with it open, and pressing the icon twice doesn't stack two of them
  • An interface that follows WinUI. Rounded cards with hairline separators, a capsule search field that turns blue when the caret is in it, round badges with a glyph for what a thing is about, filled buttons for the action and muted ones for the undo. Less chrome between you and the list
  • Escape and Ctrl+F from anywhere. Ctrl+F puts the caret in the search box, Escape empties it, the way every other Windows app does it.
  • Still one exe, still portable, still WinForms. Still does nothing when it isn't open

Still nothing ticked for you, still nothing written or removed until you say so. The king built a shelf and cleared out the garage.

Bloatynosy 1.01.131 (Origin)

A week after bringing Origin back, here's the first real update. Most of it is the stuff I didn't get finished before I finally pressed publish.

BloatynosyO.mp4

What's in this release

  • Check, review, decide, apply. Open the app, let it look at your PC, and you get a list of what Windows is doing that you might not want. Nothing is selected for you and nothing happens until you say so.
  • A Windows 11 interface, now with a navigation column. The setup-style flow is gone. Home, open changes, every category, your installed apps, and your ignored list all sit in a column on the left, each with a count of what's waiting there, and a search box in the header. One click to anywhere instead of one step after the other.
  • Around a hundred Windows settings, grouped by where they live: appearance, File Explorer, privacy, Edge, AI features, gaming, system, taskbar, ads, and updates.
  • Settings you can put back. What's still open and what's already applied are shown apart from each other, and supported entries can be set back to their Windows default.
  • Installed app detection. Bloatynosy tells bloatware candidates, personal choices, and protected Windows components apart. Apps are never ticked for removal on their own and removing one always asks first.
  • An ignore list. Anything you don't want to be asked about again stays out of your way on the next check.
  • A profile for the check. Point the app at a profile file and it checks the way you want on every PC you carry it to. Without one, the catalogue decides.
  • A report after applying. You see what the app is working on while it runs, and what actually succeeded when it's done.
  • Details when you ask for them. Select an entry to read what it does, without that text cluttering the list.
  • Optional AI explanations. Add your own key and ask about a selected setting or app. Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic and OpenAI-compatible endpoints work. It stays off until you turn it on, and the key never leaves your machine except to the provider you picked.
  • The catalogue is a text file. Every check lives in Data\WinRules.ini and Data\AppRules.ini. Open them, change them, add your own. New categories show up in the navigation on the next start without anyone touching the code.
  • English and German, and the app follows your Windows language unless you tell it otherwise.
  • Still tiny, still portable, still WinForms. One exe, no installer, no background service. It does nothing when it isn't open.
  • It has an icon now. That was the one thing I admitted was missing last time.

The king is back, and he unpacked his things.

My weird little Windows debloater somehow got millions of downloads

Now it looks like WinUI 3, runs on WinForms, and probably weighs less than your favorite debloater's splash screen😆

Who would have thought I’d bring this app back too? I certainly didnt

The last Bloatynosy update was in January 2025. Now its October 2026, and I'm returning to the version that started this whole journey for me: Bloatynosy 0.85

I've taken Bloatynosy in a lot of directions since then. New names, new interfaces, new ideas. Some of those experiments were fun, but I kept moving further away from what made the original special: open the app, see whats going on with Windows, and decide for yourself what stays.

Honestly, I should never have let that idea go.

Bloatynosy Origin is my return to it. This is the successor to 0.85 that I wanted to build: familiar in spirit, rebuilt for Windows 11, and focused on making debloating feel simple again.

Bloatynosy_Ym9EAEuzsi

What’s new

  • A clearer way through. Check your PC, review the results, select what you want, and apply the changes.
  • A Windows 11-inspired interface. A quiet, setup-style layout keeps the results in focus. Search the results tree, expand a category, and see exactly what you’re selecting.
  • Windows settings you can put back. Available changes and already applied settings appear separately. You can select supported settings to restore their defaults.
  • Installed-app detection. Bloatynosy separates bloatware candidates, personal choices, and protected Windows components. Apps are never selected for removal automatically, and uninstalling requires confirmation.
  • Progress you can follow. Scanning and applying changes show what the app is working on, followed by a report of what succeeded.
  • Details when you want them. Select an entry for more context without cluttering the main view.
  • Optional AI explanations. Enable the feature, add your own API key, and ask about a selected setting or app. Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenAI-compatible providers are supported. AI stays off until you turn it on.

I didnt want to recreate every screen and feature Bloatynosy has ever had. I wanted to get back to the part that mattered: a small app that gives you a clear view of your Windows PC and lets you make the call.

The funny thing is, this build has been sitting in my “ready to publish” folder for eight or nine days. I just never got around to pressing the button. So here it is

It still needs an app icon and a little polish here and there. Thats coming. I didnt want to leave Bloatynosy in that folder any longer

The king is back. This time, he came home.

In the last update, I had settled on a new design direction, but due to some technical issues with certain display devices, I need to roll it back for now. The design changes will be reversed, but not drastically - it's going to take us back toward the feel of version 1.06.

The UI has been refined and polished, down to the last button (inspired by WinUI styles), and optimized for seamless display across tablets, Surfaces, and notebooks

  • Fresh, functional, and modular UI with an enhanced Dark Mode and inspired WinUI styles
  • New navigation manager with history support for the back button
  • Revamped main page with direct switches to various app options
  • Improved plugin engine for better performance
  • Added new plugins, including a "Block New Outlook Preinstall" feature for Windows 11 (see Neowin source) and support for Winget app installations
  • Enhanced filtering on the Dumputer (debloater) and Experience pages
  • Smoother experience on high DPI devices
  • New FAQ section on the main page, visible on specific devices
  • Seamless page transitions with live updates
  • Numerous core fixes and performance improvements

  • The App Debloater module now supports Bloatware Filters, which are regularly expanded and updated by AI. The signatures for these filters are stored in an "AppMatrix.json" file, which can be accessed and kept up-to-date via the Plugin Store. This plugin is only supported in version 1.0.6 of Bloatynosy and onwards. Prior to this, the bloatware signatures were static and hard-coded in the app. Be sure to check out the video showcasing this feature
  • The Home/Back button now also displays the number of pages we've flipped through in the app. The first page transition starts at 1, 2, 3, etc., so you always know how many layers you’ve moved away from the main page and how many clicks it’ll take to return to the main menu. Yeah, I know it’s a bit of a gamey feature, but somehow, I kinda need it 😆
  • The Notification area has been detached from the app. It now floats over the main screen and disappears as soon as you click anywhere else

Here’s a new UI concept based on the latest dark theme version, which was just introduced yesterday as "Noir." The UI is sleek, simple, modular, and, of course, dark. Feel free to test it over the next few days and share your feedback

🚀 Bloatynosy New Year’s Build Update! 🎉

Happy New Year, my friends! Wishing you all the best for 2025. I’m excited to share more projects with you this year and make them accessible to everyone.

On the ride home from yesterday’s New Year’s party, I decided to give the Bloatynosy Plugin Store a glow-up! The UI now sports a sleek Windows 11-inspired design. Check out the introduction clip featuring the Flyby11 Plugin, which lets you install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware (just select the ISO file in the final step)

New.Year.s.Build.Update.mp4

Heres what’s new in this release:

  • Modernized Plugin Store: Install, uninstall, and update your plugins through a revamped interface in true Windows 11 style
  • Plugin reviews and code execution now log real-time statuses (To Be Applied, In Progress, Completed)
  • German language file has been updated #260 Thanks to Mr-Update
  • A few minor tweaks to improve overall stability

To install a language file, simply download the language asset from here and move it to the directory where the .exe file is located. If you'd like to contribute translations, you can find the necessary resource files on GitHub: Bloatynosy Locales. You can also use Hakan's translation tool to assist with the process

I've included a dark-themed version in the assets, which goes by the build name Noir. This version is slightly more aggressive when it comes to debloating. Since I was too lazy to provide both app modes in one app and was just experimenting at first, the dark 'Noir' version is now available as an experimental feature. Perhaps we could run a survey to see if the optional dark mode should be set as the default for the app, or if we should stick with the light mode forever, after all, you don’t keep the app open all day. The opinions are divided on the app mode. Personally, I’m more of a fan of the light mode for apps, except for my development environment like VSCode and Studio, of course.

Massive Core Overhaul Launching the App to Version 1.0

After its inception as "Bloatynosy," this release propels the app to a true milestone: version 1.0! Fun fact: Bloatynosy originally launched as my first-ever release in mid-January 2023. Since then, the app has been downloaded over 7 million times (I stopped counting earlier this year).

Bloatynosy has been through a lot. It’s seen the highs and the lows. At its peak, it was even available in the Microsoft Store, before getting removed. The app has undergone two identity crises with name changes, somehow survived as a makeshift AI web app (Winpilot), was shut down, and then brought back to life again 💩 😑

Heres what’s new in this release:

  • Freshly revamped UI from the DEV Channel is now rolling out, offering even smoother integration with Windows 11
  • Dumputer > Debloating Module adopts the classic BloatyNosy design with the iconic dual-basket interface
  • New Notification Area seamlessly slides in and out of the UI, providing global logging capabilities
  • New final app icon featuring a "fat droplet" design is included in this DEV release
    explorer_xeg5vZpwTY
  • Update check functionality added (accessible from the Notification Area)
  • Fixed an issue where individual log instances were not being saved properly
  • Fixed a bug that could prevent certain plugins from being installed
  • Resolved a critical issue where the main app window might not display (though the process was running)
  • Fixed overlapping controls in the Dumputer area when using a 175% DPI scaling
  • Optimized memory usage, because every byte still counts, even today 😄
  • The app now boots 20% faster, enhancing overall performance
  • Improved support for gaming handhelds like the ROG Ally
  • Numerous smaller bug fixes to enhance stability and usability

Heres what’s new in this release:

  • Bye-Bye "Bloatynosy Nue": Internally, it’s still "Bloatynosy Nue," but the app proudly wears its original name, "Bloatynosy," again in the assembly
  • Brand-new app icon!
  • Modern Navigation: Redesigned tabs with a more dynamic and modern feel, expect a sleeker, more unified UI
  • Tabs now come with a "close/X" button for quick cleanup
  • Improved notifications area, now with a powerful search function
  • All-new settings interface for easier configuration
  • Upgraded Store: The store is now a primary tab, always accessible right from the main form
  • Improved handling of high DPI values and DPI scaling up to 175%
  • Updated the "Experience" section for smoother user interactions

So this isn’t just an update ...it’s a comeback story🚀

If you haven’t heard yet, BloatyNosy has been brought back to life, read on to learn more...

You probably remember my classic BloatynosyApp, which had to go through some renaming and eventually got discontinued. Everything that came after, like the web-based "Winpilot," didn't last long either. Honestly, I thought I was done with Bloatynosy-well, at least with the name. But then, during a recent visit to a well-known company, I saw an employee Googling the app and trying to download it, and I had to stifle a laugh. Apparently, the legend lives on. The employee and I had a good laugh about it, and he even called it the epitome of debloating.
Sometimes, I think a little too long about things, and then a useful project just pops out. Bloatynosy was one of those projects. Sure, the name wasn't for everyone, but it was the go-to tool for cleaning up and debloating Windows. Recently, I added an OOBE assistant called "Fresh11" to the FlybyScript—basically, an all-in-one solution and I figured, why not use the same foundation to bring Bloatynosy back to life?

I had a hard time committing to it, but in the end, I went for it. Now I can proudly say that after Bloatynosy, there won’t be anything newer or better. This time, it'll be even leaner, more efficient, smaller, and faster. A simple .exe that anyone can understand, doing exactly what bugs us after installing Windows 11. The reborn Bloatynosy carries the "Nue" extension (Bloatynosy Nue), not "New" ;) The last solid, classic version was 0.85, and that's where Im picking up (with a fresh new interface). The build carries a small 11.x version number.
