Build And Packaging

Development Build

cd src
bun install
bun run prebuild
bun run dev

Production Build

cd src
bun install
bun run prebuild
bun run desktop:build

Versioning

Release version fields should stay aligned across:

  • src/desktop/tauri.conf.json
  • src/desktop/package.json
  • src/desktop-ui/package.json
  • src/web/package.json
  • shared packages where applicable
  • plugin SDK/package versions when they are part of the release

Release Packages

The current release publishes:

  • macOS Apple Silicon DMG
  • Windows x64 Setup EXE
  • Windows x64 MSI
  • Windows portable ZIP
  • Linux x64 AppImage
  • Linux x64 deb

Signing

macOS packages may be Developer ID signed when credentials are present. Notarization requires Apple notary credentials in the build environment.

Windows signing depends on CI/release credentials.

GitHub Release Notes

Do not rely only on generated release notes. Human release notes should mention:

  • user-visible changes
  • fixed GitHub issues
  • compatibility notes
  • known limitations
  • package/signing status when relevant

Common Build Problems

Symptom Fix
Tauri cannot find frontend output Run bun run prebuild
WebKitGTK missing on Linux Install distro-specific Tauri dependencies
Bun dependency mismatch Remove stale install artifacts and rerun bun install
macOS signing fails Check Developer ID cert and environment variables
Windows packaging fails Check WebView2/Wix/NSIS setup and CI runner logs
