Na mitoloxía maorí, Tāne (tamén coñecido como Tāne-mahuta, Tāne-nui-a-Rangi, e moitos outros nomes) é o deus dos bosques e dos paxaros, e o fillo de Ranginui e Papatūānuku, o pai do ceo e a nai da Terra, os cales adoitaban deitarse nun forte abrazo onde os seus moitos fillos vivían na escuridade entre eles (Grey 1956:2).
