Percussion woes, felt by the rest of the band
Hola kids. So here's the deal.
Today I am going to the first meeting of marching band leadership/staff/responsible people who know what the hell they're doing. We have a new teacher/director who up until March of this year had never taught a band class, let alone a marching band (our old teacher randomly up and left, so our new teacher had been our long term sub who taught chior *shudders*).
Last year, there was only one other girl in percussion section (we're too small to have a pit), who was a complete pain in the bum, and none of the under classmen like or listen her. However, she was in band since freshmen year, while last year was my first year (we're both the only seniors). She immediatly went and made friends with Ms Bimbo, who, having no clue on how things are run, gave her section leader. Just GAVE it to her. She can't even read real music, just rhythms.
My best friend and older brother were Ass. Drum major and perc. section leader last year. Ms Bimbo hated them. She associates me with them. Bad news for me. So basically, my section is in anarchy. With a teacher who has no flippin clue what she is doing. We haven't even got our show officailly for next year.
Unfortunatly, I'm not totally qualified to be section leader either, since I can't play snare to save my life, just everything else (I played bass last year, and am in charge of what would be a pit this year, except we march our glocks and xylo). And they test you on bloody snare.
Since I have done a marvelous job of venting and am now freaking out, help, advice, support? Please?
Regards, Elaine
