A fandom grandma. Here for the Tolkien. She/her. Left wing. Fangirl. Disabled. Neurodivergent of some kind. How old am I? I used to read fanfic printed on paper and sold at cons in the 80s. Beware! I may leave positive comments on your fics.

The Art Institute of Chicago fired their entire custodial staff in a union busting move and is being run by a sex pest

got your attention? good. this is a hail mary, and any action you can take is free.

august 15th, the art institute of chicago decided to fire their entire custodial staff who were unionized with the american federation of state, council, and municipal employees under Art Institute Chicago Workers United (AICWU). this move has largely been criticized as union busting as theyve been replaced by a 3rd party company and will be losing their benefits like tuition remission and PTO.

their custodial staff is largely made up of spanish speaking immigrants, so not only are they working a job that is underappreciated but they are also part of one of the most vulnerable communities in the united states right now

you know what also happened this year? james rondeau, the president of the art institute of chicago renewed his contract to remain the president despite the fact that last year he got drunk with meds on his first class flight to munich that he stripped naked and sexually harassed a flight attendant.

that man is a pest, and not only has he done that but hes ignored the FOUR THOUSAND signatures AICWU has garnered, pleading with management to reverse their decision. management has also ignored the unions demands at the bargaining table, and theyre about to be renegotiating their contract

now what im about to say has not been approved by their union, but they need all the support they can get. having experience working in the cultural sector, these institutions care about their image. here's what i need you all to do:

  • leave a bad, 1 star or half star review on google. cultural orgs pay attention to these ratings!
  • call their membership hotline and calmly explain youd like to submit a complaint. you can say "i'd like to submit a complaint about the treatment of AIC's custodial staff. they deserve their jobs back. i also think james rondeau is disgusting for the way he sexually harassed a flight attendant last year."
  • if you live in Chicago, go to the art institute and submit a complaint in person. they have free days
  • make social media posts about it
  • go follow AICWU on Instagram and share their posts
  • get creative if you want!

im so tired of immigrants being treated like shit and this is a real tangible way you can help vulnerable people For Free.

james rondeau is an irresponsible and malicious man and he should not be in charge.

Do you ever think about how in some way Elwing was damned to live in a land that was not her own. Forever young and waiting for a husband put to a task greater than personhood. They were given the choice as a reward for their bravery, for the confusion of their existence. Some way to fit the peredhel into neat boxes, I wonder often if Elwing regrets her eternal life. If she sits on the cliffs of Tol Eressëa learning the languages of birds, hearing of the ways in which they can leave and fly far away. Dive beneath the sea to splendid silence. Thinks of the sounds of song birds, of wind through the branches of trees. The center of an old growth Forrest loud and cacophonous in its sound, utterly incompatible with the sea. Land in which she was reared and sundered from, via death and abject destruction. Then barred from ever returning from ever searching out her inheritance, placing all that was material into a gem who's ownership seems more trivial by the day..... anyway just thinking of her.

The mist begins to lift from the forest thicket where the maiden prefers to dwell. The fiery light of dawn seeps into the depths, revealing two apparitions walking side by side. Yet the light heralds the morning meaning one of them must return to the realm of the living and the other one to the realm of the dead.

New artwork for my oc and Maedhros. Bit cringe but…

[...] Luthien and Huan, Hound of Valinor, came to Beren's rescue, and Huan killed the wolves sent against him. After Draugluin was killed, Sauron went out in wolf-form but was defeated. Luthien gained control over the isle from Sauron, who fled, and, after releasing those who had been captive there under Sauron, she reduced Minas Tirith to ruins [...]

My interpretation of the step included in the Silmarillion

been obsessed lately with the idea of a politically ambitious Arwen

an Arwen who, at the equivalent age of 12 could hold her own in any debate or argument.

an Arwen who marries Aragorn for love but also a teensy bit because he had some kind of claim to Gondor's throne and she's got that ambition in her (she IS Galadriel's granddaughter after all lol)

an Arwen who doesn't sit back and let Aragorn rule Gondor on his own, content to be just a lovely queen and mantlepiece, but rather takes the reins of that role and marks her influence on the peoples and laws of Gondor. A queen in her own right, an equal ruler and partner to Aragorn.

an Arwen who pisses OFF the old grumpy council members of Imladris and Gondor alike, with her new ideas and witty political banter.

an Arwen who DOES in fact pull the age card out in Gondor's council meetings to demasculinize and shut down the old (but very young compared to her) grumpy "whippersnappers/children" who are stuck in their ways and aren't doing nearly enough for their constituents/hoarding their wealth instead of helping the people/etc.

an Arwen who helps fight to bring back the old laws before her death so that her eldest granddaughter can become a ruling queen after Eldarion.

an Arwen who funds schools for girls and sponsors young women who want to get into politics and/or other fields dominated by men.

an Arwen who isn't just a passive person in the history of middle earth, and while she might not be a strong fighter with a sword and shield she is with a quill and her words.

idk, I've been having a lot of thoughts about how I want to write Arwen in my fics and how I wanna present her in my art :3

Caranthir: Don't go in there.

Maedhros: Why?

Caranthir: You know how Curufin and Celegorm share one brain cell and it's always with Curufin? Well Celegorm has it right now.

Maedhros: OH.

So I just learned that horses only have one toe because it's easier to gofastrealquick in open terrain like that. But when they still lived in big forests, where manoeuvrability was key to survival, early horse ancestors had a respectable four toes per foot.

Knowing this, I would like to propose the following:

Horses bred in open plains, like Maglor’s Gap or Rohan, would have evolved to only have one toe and great strength.

However!

The horses of Doriath and Nan Elmoth, and later Lothlorien and Mirkwood still have toes. Forest horses would be slightly smaller and more agile than their cousin, the plains horse.

I think Sauron 100% believed he could have built the perfect society if only people would stop fighting him.

The ideal world according to Sauron?

Maedhros would believe whole-heartedly that Fingon would have stood against him in the kinslayings. Whole-heartedly believes that he or his brothers would've been forced to kill him if Fingon hadn't died before the second kinslaying. Fingon probably would've stood against them, I'll grant him that, because Fingon loves his cousin but he wouldn't slaughter an entire city on that love.

Fingon would, however, have broken into Sirion or Doriath and stolen the Silmaril. No second thoughts, no attempt to bargain. Just the high king climbing through someone's window to steal jewelry for his bestie

tbf he did show up at Alqualonde, see the Feanorians killing everyone, and "rushed in before [he] knew rightly the cause of the quarrel"
