we revel in skeletons
Luhan puts him back together, piece by piece, fiber by fiber. He finds him on an abandoned piece of land, limbs torn apart by a landmine and fresh, hot blood gushing out of his body, surrounding him like a red ocean. Luhan didn't think twice about it --- he carries the fallen soldier and all the missing pieces back to his cottage deep in the forest, tunelessly humming to himself.
Luhan stitches him back together and wipes away the blood, cleans him up. He daintily holds the soldier's dog tag in his hands and lets his tongue roll over the name written on it: Sehun. It takes him a while to read the name, given his very little knowledge in Korean, and it sounds to strange and too foreign to him. But he likes it. He repeats the name. Sehun. Gently, ever so gently, he lets the tips of his fingers graze Sehun's serene and emotionless face. "Soon," he whispers to Sehun, lips pressed against the soldier's forehead, "You'll wake up soon."
-
Luhan watches from afar as lightning strikes and he swears he hears the slow, steady beating of a heart.
-
Sehun doesn't remember much about his past life. He doesn't remember anything before he became...whatever he is now and he probably wouldn't remember his name if it hadn't been for the dog tag hanging around his neck. But when Luhan takes his hand in his and calls him his, Sehun finds no reason to be unhappy, finds no reason to go back to the life he had left behind.
-
"You're all I have," Luhan tells him in the dark of the night, their bodies pressed so tightly together that Sehun can feel Luhan's heartbeat.
Mindlessly, Sehun echoes, "You're all I have."
-
"Stick by me and I'll stick by you," Luhan promises him, eyes bright and dark all at once. He smiles at Sehun, and it's a ghastly smile, sharp and haggard and fragile.
Wordlessly, Sehun takes Luhan's hand in his and they walk together through the forest. He isn't afraid anymore.
