Detroit Lake.
Thank goodness that weekend is over. Let's recap the not-so-funny comedy of errors:
However, the upside included:
- We were meeting Sam's cousin and his friends who had rented two campsites and had "plenty of room." Once we arrive, the park rangers tell us that the limit is two cars per campsite, and there are already four cars there. Uhhhh.
- We decide to rent our own campsite nearby and just walk back and forth. There are well over 200 campsites at the park and no vacancies near our friends. We had to rent a site on the other side of the park. However, the girl at the front gate modified my parking pass so I could park at a temporary spot near our buddies, but we still had to purchase the extra campsite to get the temp parking spot.
- Some jackass in a full-sized truck parked in my temp parking spot and half of the spot beside him. Fortunately the Jeep takes edge like a champ and squeezes into the half-spot that isn't ours.
- We barely get the tent up before it gets dark. The air pump I bought for the mattress doesn't work properly. We borrow a pump and get the mattress inflated. However, the mattress slowly deflates over night, and we're mostly on the ground by the next morning.
- My camera battery dies. No pictures are taken.
- The one-burner butane stove I bought doesn't have the attachments we saw in the display. It would have been great if we had a pot or a grill attachment, but we don't. Again, we're totally dependent on our friends. If you ever go camping with me, don't rely on my stuffs.
However, the upside included:
- Spending time with Sam.
- Wine and food with new friends.
- Taking a boat ride on the lake.
- Campfire s'mores.
- Fixing the air mattress by opening and re-closing the valves for a comfy sleep Saturday night.
- It beats sitting at home.
