Fernando Di Leo tries his hand at comedy....and the results are not so good. The film lands somewhere between a send up of the Poliziotteschi films and a seventies sex comedy, without nailing either. Ursula Andress stars as an air hostess who gets embroiled in some gang warfare in Napoli. It starts off interesting enough but the freewheeling plot soon goes off the rails, to the point where the film itself doesn't seem to know what is going on anymore. What Ursula Andress lacks in acting talent is made up for elsewhere, and the film really makes a big deal of showcasing her assets - much of the runtime is spent on her wandering around in different outfits or in…
Fernando Di Leo is one of my favorite directors. If you wanted a sense of my film taste, I would tell you to explore the works of John Carpenter, Andy Sidaris and Di Leo. Their movies would give you a great indication of the type of film I really dig.
Loaded Guns is one of the few Di Leo films I hadn’t seen. I avoided watching because IMDb had it listed as PG. Ha! If this is PG, then Mini Mike Bloomberg is going to be the next POTUS.
Ursula Andress is naked at least 69% of the film. Hot dog damn! She is smokin’! The film makes zero sense. But, Ursula keeps undressing, so I kept watching. This isn’t…
By 1975, fans came to the theaters with great anticipation for the next crime drama by Fernando di Leo. His name carried a certain reputation thanks to the years built within the poliziotteschi, and much to the chagrin of producer Armando Novelli, di Leo wanted to diversify with LOADED GUNS (Colpo in canna, 1975), a commedie all’italiana variation of the crime film he was noted for. Novelli recalls in an older Italian documentary about the film in Fernando di Leo: Parody of a Genre, he adamantly told di Leo “fans will smash the theater down” if he went ahead with something this different. Ultimately, di Leo would admit years later in Italian Crime Filmography, 1968-1980 by historian Roberto Curti, that…
I watched this for director Fernando Di Leo. Not one of his best. To be honest though I really watched this incomprehensible slapstick gangster flick to see Marc Porel and Ursula Andress fuck. And that they did.
But not nearly enough to make up for the tedium of the silly final half-hour.
This was such a fun action crime comedy romp! Ursula Andress is AWESOME as the gorgeous, clever, and quick Nora, an American stewardess who finds herself mixed up with some Italian gangsters and the hapless police. Andress was such a joy to spend time with and carries the film with her beauty and charm. Woody Strode plays the menacing gangster Silvera, who is being targeted by an illusive hitter, The American, who is trying to play two Italian crews against each other. Along the way, Nora befriends a lovable, quick-driving cabbie and falls for a handsome young former boxer and circus acrobat played by Marc Porel. The final 30 minutes of the film is a pure action comedy bonanza, with…
I love Fernando Di Leo's eurocrime films and I think he's one of that genre's finest directors. The poster for 'Loaded Guns' kind of suggests it's part of the same genre, but this unfunny comedy has very little in common with Di Leo's violent and sleazy crime films - though it IS pretty violent at times and very sleazy.
Urslua Andress gets naked so often, she must've thought she was in an Andy Sidaris movie. She should be credited as Urlusa Undress. That's one of the few things in this film that I have no complaints about and one of the reasons why it still gets 2 stars, though it's almost unwatchable at times. Ursula also gets beaten up more…
There's a certain baseline of watchable pleasure that exists when I sit down in front of these Italian crime movies, and this sails along a more comedic version of that groove for most of its running time, as Ursula Andress navigates through an impossibly confusing tangle of rival mob bosses, police officers, acrobats, and anyone else dumb enough to think he has a shot with her. This is punctuated by a couple of great slapstick set-pieces, which are simply preludes to the final reel, which is several cinematic dreams come true. Woody Strode's formerly scary crime lord becomes a laughing giant, and bad guys come out of the woodwork to punch, kick, and punch-kick each other like a Hal Roach…
Keine Ahnung, was der ansonsten stets überzeugende Fernando di Leo da machen wollte.
This has all the potential to be a fun little movie, with a great cast (including Ursula Andress really having a good time) in an intriguing mix of sex comedy and poliziotteschi, but it just...isn't. It says a lot that this was one of the last Di Leo crime pictures to be reissued on Blu-Ray.
Almost unfathomably confusing until the final half-hour, when it becomes a full-on Blake Edwards/Three Stooges/Benny Hill fuck-fest. Particularly of note: watching the Italian Chuck Norris repeatedly attempt to kick Man-Mountain Woody Strode™ in the chest, failing spectacularly every single time. Not to mention the multiple dog spectators.
Also particularly of note: all of Ursula Andress.
A frequently naked Ursula Andress gets caught up in (or is secretly manipulating) a drug gang conflict in Naples. Classic goofball sleaze from Di Leo. In between all the scenes of Andress either getting it on or getting slapped around he stuffs in endless lowbrow delights: slapstick fights with guys getting bonked on the head while wah-wah horns bleat on the soundtrack, horny swinger priests at the disco, Woody Strode gleefully pounding on a few honkies, even a FISTFUL OF DOLLARS parody. May not really amount to much but still a blast.
