Pure Krav Maga is a practical and comprehensive self-defence system that develops your instinct to react and defend yourself effectively under pressure from a range of threats. The course is split into 6 sections: Impacts, Knives, Close Contact, Groundwork, Guns and Sticks. Impacts = how to strike and defend yourself against strikes in unarmed combat e.g. punches, kicks, elbows Knives = defences against knife attacks from various angles Close Contact = defences against chokes, grabbing Groundwork = defences from attacks when you are on the ground Guns = defence against firearms Sticks = defence against blunt weapons

Is any prior experience in martial arts required?

No, beginners are very welcome! Most of our members had no prior training in other martial arts before joining us, and many beginners see significant progress in just a few sessions. Krav techniques are built on instinctive physical reactions to threats, so they are straightforward to learn. There will be more experienced members on hand to guide you if you have any questions.

Can I see what a session is like before committing?

Absolutely! Sign up through our Give It a Go forms link at the top of the page. If you can't make it, your first session will still be free. Just pop by the Union Gym on a Friday from 20:00-22:00.

What do you teach in a session?

We cover one section of the course each term in 10 2h sessions. (See 'What is Krav?' for the 6 sections.) The first term covers Impacts (e.g. punches, kicks) and the second term covers Knife Defence. Other sections are covered in intensive day-long seminars run once every 1-2 months, where a day is dedicated to a specific section and you will quickly develop competency and confidence in it.

What is the format of a session?

You will see techniques in action through demonstrations, then practice them safely with other members using practice pads and other equipment if necessary. Any sparring will be done with proper protective equipment and instructor supervision. Our instructor is supportive and knowledgeable, and he welcomes any questions or doubts you may have about any techniques.

Who is the instructor?

Our instructor Master Mohammed is a certified Krav Maga Advanced Senior Master Instructor Level 7, and he is registered with the British Combat Association.

When and where does training take place?

Fridays, 9/10-12/12 (10 weeks) 20:00-22:00 at Union Gym
