A PTO, or Parent Teacher Organization, is an independent group of parents/guardians, teachers, and any other support person of our students that collaborate to improve the school through planning, volunteering, and fundraising for school stipends, teacher reimbursement, field trips, school events, and student/staff assistance.

How is a PTO different from a PTA?

A PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is affiliated with a national organization and therefore requires dues to be paid to that organization. Our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is independently run requiring no dues and in charge of our own bylaws.

How do you support the school?

We work primarily to enrich the school experience through fundraising, event planning, and volunteering. — From our first fall mum sale to the end-of-the-year celebrations, we host several events and campaigns, including the Boo Run, Cookies and Concerts, Teacher Appreciation Week, Spring Dance, and Spirit Weeks! These events wouldn’t be possible without your generous donations of money, time, skills, and ideas. — We support our parents as well by building community. You have the opportunity to meet other families and get to know staff on a more personal level when you attend meetings, show up at events, or work together crafting decorations or chaperoning. Plus, you can keep up to date with school events, initiatives, and decisions!

How can I get involved?

Attend a meeting! Our general meeting dates are listed on the linked “General Meeting” flyer. Sign up to join the board (sign-up forms available at meetings and in the school offices), volunteer at events, promote fundraisers by sharing with family and friends, or simply start by adding your contact info to the linked “Keep in Touch” tab and we’ll message you about upcoming opportunities.

All meetings take place in person in the Avalon Elementary library (unless otherwise stated) and are live streamed on zoom where you may also participate remotely.

I can’t make it to a meeting in person. Is there any way to still know what’s going on?

We have options! All of our meetings are also streamed live via zoom. Check our flyers, Facebook, and emails for a link or reach out to elempto@solake.org. — Still can’t attend? Make sure you’re signed up for our newsletters to receive summaries of meetings and updates. Use the “Keep in Touch” tab on our page here to sign up.
