wandering souls
This is a dream that I had a couple weeks ago. I've been meaning to write it down, but I didn't get the chance that morning, and then you know how it goes after that. So the details aren't really there anymore but I thought it was a pretty neat dream, so I will write what I remember.
Wandering Souls
In my dream I was at a meeting in a meadow at the edge of a forest. Everything was quite green, and the nearby trees were very tall & thick in diameter. The meeting was being held at an outdoor amphitheater with log benches. There were many people milling around of every different description, but there was something similar in all their looks, something that spoke of loneliness, something that told you they were misfits. The meeting was called to order & the speaker announced that this was a gathering of "wandering souls." He noted that we all were lonely, because we belonged nowhere & because we couldn't be satisfied staying in one place for long. He said "But despite this, there is no reason for this terrible loneliness. Let us pair up & be married, that we may wander together!" And the heads in the audience nodded in agreement. I looked around and found that everyone was coupling up. A few men approached me but I was not sure, and I sent them away. Pretty soon almost everybody was paired up. I thought maybe that I had missed my chance. It made me a little sad, but I felt like I hadn't really wanted to be with those men. Then a man came out of the forest. A tall man, dressed in white, with a white beard, ageless looking - like an elf. He said that he was the deity of the Northern Forest, that he had wandered that forest alone for so long and was very lonely. Mostly no one paid any attention to him, they were too busy with their new partners. He looked very sad, realizing that he had come too late. He turned and began to walk back into the forest. I rose quickly and followed him into the forest. I touched his left elbow with my hand & he turned to me. I was nervous & shy as I looked up into his face. I said "I know it seems like a mismatch, but perhaps we can be married & wander together." I thought I would be rejected, but his sad face melted into joy and he accepted. The two of us walked arm in arm into the woods, back to his Northern Forest.
