I'm thinking about how we can transition away from disposable containers.
昨日まで知らなかったのですが、世界で使い捨てを減らす取り組みが実験的に行われているようです。
I hadn't known about some of the initiatives to reduce disposable containers until yesterday, and I'm curious about them.
アメリカのペタルーマでこのプロジェクトに参加しているお店で注文すると、紫色のカップで飲み物が提供されて、街中の返却ボックスに入れるとリユースされるという試験的な取り組みがあるようです。
From what I understand, in the pilot programs at restaurants and shops across this California city, drinks are served in signature purple cups that can be returned to designated drop-off bins throughout the area.
スターバックスやKFC、セブンイレブンなども参加。デポジットも不要。
Retailers - including Starbucks, KFC, and 7-Eleven - are participating in the initiative with no deposit required.
2024年、2025年に行われて、2026年からアメリカの主要都市でこの取り組みが始まるっぽい。

I believe free disposable chopsticks should be banned. It would be great if casual restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, and bento shops and more collaborated to encourage the use of reusable chopsticks instead. We need to protect both domestic and global forests.
割り箸は国産材の間伐材だけにして、全部有料にしたら良いと思う。基本的にはみんな自分のお箸を携帯したら良いと思います。

デポジットを預かると売れなくなる、ということなのだったら、デポジットを預かった上で、例えばきちんと返却した人には容器分が返却された上で、宝くじみたいにポイントなどがプラスでもらえるチャンスがある、などがあれば、売れるのかも？
If owners worry that charging a deposit will hurt sales, they might consider a reward-based system. For instance, if returning packaging entered customers into a lottery for bonus points, maybe it could help boost sustainability and loyalty at the same time. Just a thought.
まぁ、そういうのじゃなくて、デポジットを預かった上で、返却されずに残ったお金は、清掃や分別、リサイクル等の一部に充てていただきたいとは思っています。
Apart from that, I believe businesses should be responsible for cleaning, waste separation, and recycling fees. Since some customers don't follow the rules and end up littering, businesses could use unclaimed deposits to cover these costs.
