BrushBunni Discord Art Event with Uni – Interview & Artwork Spotlight
Hello everyone!
This week we would like to take a closer look at the online drawing event that we recently started on the BrushBunni Discord server.
In last week’s post we briefly introduced the event. It is a relaxed and welcoming figure drawing session hosted by Uni (Unimoonii) where artists can practice drawing together online.
During the session, Uni shares reference images and sets a timer for short figure drawing exercises. Everyone follows along and sketches the poses together. The entire event focuses on these warm-up style drawings, which makes it a great way to loosen up, practice observation skills, and draw without pressure.
The session is open to all skill levels, and all reference materials are safe for work. It is a friendly environment where artists can practice while chatting casually about art, hobbies, and creative careers.
We will be hosting the event again this weekend on the Discord server.

To give you an idea of the exercises we do, you can see an example image below from Uni that was used during the last event. Uni sets the timer and everyone draws the same poses together while talking and sharing ideas.
It is a simple and enjoyable way to practice figure drawing and spend a creative evening with artists from around the world.
This week we also wanted to take the opportunity to share a short interview with Uni. Along with the interview, we are excited to show a few of her artworks that we think are fantastic. Her work has a wonderful sense of character and expression, and we are very happy to have her hosting these drawing sessions with our community.

Who is Uni? A short introduction!
Hi, my name is Loretta or I also go by Uni (ユニ)! I'm from America, I lived in Japan for 4 years but just recently returned to the US. I'm currently a freelance concept artist focusing on character design for video games and enjoy doing illustrations on the side! Aside from art I enjoy traveling and going to conventions and concerts. While in Japan I traveled all over Japan and Asia! I also enjoyed going to Comiket twice a year and getting to see many Japanese artists I've always admired. I also go to concerts frequently! Last month I traveled to San Diego to see an artist from Indonesia I really enjoy, Galdive!
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
I feel like being an artist is something I take for granted. In that when I create art for myself it's just like any other day and nothing special, but when I make something for someone else they get really excited about it and are grateful. It makes me happy and realize that I actually have a useful skill that is able to make other people happy haha. So that's what I enjoy!
What usually inspires your ideas? music, films, everyday life, nature, emotions, something else?
The thing that inspires me the most is seeing artworks from my favorite artists and wanting to invoke the same emotions I get from their artworks. For media, the games Hyperlight Drifter and Arknights are big inspirations for me right now, they're both in this zone of kind of sci-fi kind of fantasy that I really enjoy.
Is there a moment in your life that strongly influenced the way you create art today?
While in university I was having trouble deciding between pursing a career in game programming or in conept art for games. During that time I watched an anime called "The Pet Girl of Sakurasou" (さくら荘のペットな彼女), and in it the main character goes through this journey of thinking that he is kind of "normal" compared to is extremely talented classmates at his art school and isn't sure what he wants to do. But throughout the series he figures out his passion and decides that he's going to try his best to pursue it, it doesn't matter if he thinks he talentless. I really took that message to heart and it convinced me to drop my computer science degree and pursue a career in art.
What kind of subjects or themes do you naturally feel drawn to, and why?
I've always enjoyed more fantastical themes like fantasy and sci-fi. I think if we as artists have the ability to create whatever we want why not go for the most outlandish/interesting thing we can think of. Things that don't exist in real life (and probably never will) can only be realized by artists. So it's like our job to bring other people into those worlds and show them something so they can experience it visually.
Looking ahead, what kind of projects or creative challenges would you like to explore in the future?
In the same realm of bringing people into other worlds, I'd like to get more into environments in the future. One of my favorite artists is Teikoku Shounen (帝国少年) and he creates these incredibly detailed environment illustrations that always make me want to jump into the art and walk around the cities he creates. One day I'd like to create artwork like that.
