(English follows)

For fulfilling life〜Comparison(1)

Escaping suffering

Sometimes we find ourselves comparing who we are with someone else — thinking I don’t want to lose to that person or I wish I could be like them. We may even compare ourselves with an ideal version of who we want to be. These moments happen to many of us.
Whether it’s exam results, work performance, certain skills, height or weig ht, appearance, income or assets — there are countless things we can compare(1).
Being aware of a rival can sometimes help us think strategically, shorten the time it takes to take action, and even lead to better outcomes(2). Likewise, having goals or ideals can sometimes increase our sense of happiness and well‑being(3).
Seen this way, these kinds of constructive comparisons don’t seem like a bad thing at all.
