脳を休める

どうやら私たちの脳って、いつも裏側でフル稼働していて、常に何かを処理しているらしいんです。 でも、水面のゆらゆらとかキラキラを見ていると、何も考えずにぼーっとできちゃう。ああやって水を眺めながらぼーっとしている時間って、実は脳を休ませているんだとか(1)。 それに、水面のあの小さな動きって、規則的なようでいて実はちょっと不規則。その組み合わせがリラックス効果を生むらしいんです(2)。 さらに、水辺で過ごす時間が多い人ほど、メンタルのウェルビーイングが高い傾向があるって話も聞いたことがあります(3)。

Rest your brain
Apparently our brains are always working hard in the background, constantly processing something. But I can just stare at the ripples and sparkles on the water without even thinking.
When we zone out while watching the water like that, it’s actually giving our brains a break(1). And those little movements on the surface — they look kind of regular but not really. That mix is supposed to have a relaxing effect(2). I even heard that the more often people spend time near water, the better their mental well‑being tends to be(3).
