夜な夜な運ばれていく風力発電所のブレードを目にしたことをきっかけに、 エッセイフィルムを制作しました。照明を浴びて光る巨大な羽がトレーラーや作業員に導かれる様子は、まるでお神輿のようで、今ここでしか見られないある種の貴重な風景です。しかし、山々に突き刺さる白い構造物が並ぶ光景には異様さがあり、アンビバレントな感情を呼び起こします。作中では、風力発電所を「新しい木」に見立て、原発の安全神話がもたらす心理的誘導や、この風景の行方について考えました。「復興」と呼ぶには遠い野行地区に漂う時空のズレをどう埋めるべきかはまだ見えていません。それでも、山々からこの風景を見える/見えないようにするには、わたしたち自身の想像力が問われるのだと感じています。
This video is my response to witnessing the transportation of the blades of a wind turbine at dusk. Shining under floodlights like enormous wings, loaded on trailers and guided by workers, they were like the omikoshi shrines that carry kami. It was a vision unique to that place and moment. However, there is an unnaturalness to those white structures jutting up from the mountains that inspires ambivalence within me. In this work, I liken the wind turbines to "new trees" in order to explore both the psychological appeal of the myth of nuclear safety and the ongoing changes to the landscape. It remains unclear how to reconcile the spatial and temporal disconnect in the Noyuki District of Katsurao, which is still far from "reconstruction." The visibility/ invisibility of this scenery in the mountains tests the power of our imaginations.

1991年福島県生まれ、東京都在住。記憶や認識など目に見えない不確かな動態をモチーフに、主に映像メディアを用いて制作を行う。近年の主な展覧会に、「ビジター・キュー」（山中Suplexの別棟MINE、2023年）、「how to make friends」（Art Center Ongoing、2023 年）、都美セレクショングループ展2021「暗くなるまで待っていて」（東京都美術館、2021 年）など。スクリーニングには、「European Media Art Festival」（オスナブリュック、2023年）、「EASTEAST_TOKYO 2023」（科学技術館、2023年）、「第14回恵比寿映像祭」（東京都写真美術館、2022 年）など。2024年初開催のe-flux Film AwardにてSecond Prizeを受賞。
Eri Saito is a Japanese artist living and working in Tokyo. Born 1991 in Fukushima. Focusing on video, she creates works themed on such invisible and uncertain dynamics as memory and cognition. Her recent exhibitions include Visitor Cue (Yamanaka Suplex annex building MINE, Osaka, 2023), how to make friends (Art Center Ongoing, Tokyo, 2023), and Until It Gets Dark (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, 2021). Her video works have been shown at European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, Germany, 2023), EAST EAST_TOKYO (Science Museum, Tokyo, 2023), and Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Tokyo, 2022), among other places. In 2024, she received the Second Prize at the e-flux Film Award.
