Reading Retro Games : Sailor Moon Another Story (#1-2)
Here, I’m sharing transcriptions of dialogue and lines from retro games so that readers can enjoy “reading” them. Learning doesn’t always have to begin in a classroom setting—it’s perfectly fine to start from the things you love. I hope this can spark curiosity and help you expand your interests step by step.
In this article, we’ll look at Sailor Moon: Another Story (Super Famicom) — specifically, Chapter 1-2.
火川神社：Hikawa Shrine
J：うさぎ「ねぇ みんな聞いてー。
ねぇ みんなーー 大変よー。
ダイモーンが現れたの。一体どういうことなのかしら」
ー Usagi: “Hey everyone, listen!
Something terrible happened—a Daimon appeared!
What on earth is going on?”
J：まこと「デスバスターズの奴らが復活したのか？」
ー Makoto: “Could it be that the Death Busters have come back?”
J：レイ「うさぎー寝ぼけてたんじゃないの」
Rei: “Usagi, were you just dreaming?”
J：うさぎ「またー レイちゃんの意地悪。あみちゃんは信じてくれるよね。（キョロキョロ）あれ？あみちゃんは？？」
ー Usagi: “There you go again, Rei-chan, being mean. Ami-chan, you believe me, right? (looks around) Huh? Where’s Ami-chan?”
J：あみ「ごめんなさい。急に浦和くんから連絡が来たの。」
ー Ami: “Sorry. Urawa-kun suddenly contacted me.”
J：レイ「とりあえず中に入りましょう。」
ー Rei: “Anyway, let’s go inside.”
レイの自宅：Rei’s house
J：まこと「へえーーー じゃあ久しぶりだね。浦和君に会うの」
ー Makoto: “Heeey, so it’s been a while since you last saw Urawa-kun, huh?”
J：あみ「お休みを利用してこっちのほうに来るんですって。」
ー Ami: “He’s using his break to come over here.”
J：レイ「それで浦和くんとどこに行くのか決めたの？」
ー Rei: “So, have you decided where to go with Urawa-kun?”
J：あみ「とりあえず全国無差別級試験を受けて・・・それから・・・」
ー Ami: “First I’ll be taking the National Open-level Exam… and after that…”
J：うさぎ「それから？」
ー Usagi: “And after that?”
J：あみ「図書館に行こうと思ってるの」
ー Ami: “I’m thinking of going to the library.”
J：うさぎ「相変わらずそんなお堅いところばっかし」
ー Usagi: “Still going to such stiff places as always.”
J：まこと「ホントかなぁ？あみちゃん私にだけ教えてくれよ。」
ー Makoto: “Really? Ami-chan, tell me the truth, just between us.”
J：うさぎ「あああ まこちゃんずるい。」
ー Usagi: “Aaah, that’s unfair, Mako-chan!”
J：レイ「その後デートの予定はどうなってるの？」
ー Rei: “And after that, do you have a date planned?”
J：あみ「えっ！？ そんな・・・！！
デ デートだなんて私たちまだ中学生よ。
でも久しぶりに浦和くんに会うし、そうね・・・」
ー Ami: “Eh!? No way…!!
A d-date? We’re still middle schoolers!
But since I haven’t seen Urawa-kun in a while, well…”
J：うさぎ「やっぱし！ それから どこに行くの？」
ー Usagi: “I knew it! So, where are you going after that?”
J：みなこ「やっほー♥ みんなお待たせ。どうしたの？あみちゃん 顔真っ赤だよ。」
ー Minako: “Yahhoo ♥ Sorry to keep you waiting! What’s wrong, Ami-chan? Your face is all red.”
J：まこと「いやあ あみちゃんの彼氏が久しぶりにこっちに来るらしいんだ。」
ー Makoto: “Well, it seems Ami’s boyfriend is coming here after a long time.”
J：あみ「ちょ ちょっと まこちゃん！浦和君はそんなんじゃなくって・・・」
ー Ami: “H-hey, Mako-chan! Urawa-kun isn’t like that…”
J：ゆういちろう「皆さんこんにちは！ 今日はお揃いで レイさん今日もお元気そうで何よりです。」
ー Yuuichirou: “Hello, everyone! You’re all together today. Rei-san, I’m glad to see you looking well as always.”
J：レイ「あ ありがとう ゆういちろう」
ー Rei: “Th-thank you, Yuuichirou.”
J：ゆういちろう「皆さん ゆっくりくつろいでいってください。」
ー Yuuichirou: “Please, everyone, take your time and relax.”
J：うさぎ「ところで レイちゃん♥♥」
ー Usagi: “By the way, Rei-chan ♥♥”
J：レイ「何よ うさぎその猫撫で声は」
ー Rei: “What is it, Usagi? Don’t use that sweet voice with me.”
J：うさぎ「あれからどうなのよ ゆういちろうさんとの仲は」
ー Usagi: “So, how are things with Yuuichirou-san since then?”
J：レイ「べ 別に 何にもないわよ。」
ー Rei: “N-nothing at all.”
J：うさぎ「ほんと？」
ー Usagi: “Really?”
J：レイ「ほんとに ほんとになんにもないわよ！それよりうさぎあなたこそどうなのよ。」
ー Rei: “Really, really nothing at all! Anyway, what about you, Usagi?”
J：うさぎ「私？私はマモちゃんと毎朝会ってるし、お別れの時はいつもその…キスしてくれるし。きゃー♥♥言っちゃった！」
ー Usagi: “Me? Well, I see Mamo-chan every morning, and when we say goodbye, he always gives me a… kiss. Kyaa ♥♥ I said it!”
J：レイ「はいはいごちそうさま」
ー Rei: “Yeah, yeah, enough already.”
J：みなこ「はあああ それにしてもうらやましいわね」
ー Minako: “Haaah, but I’m so jealous.”
J：まこと「ほんとだよ。うさぎちゃんには まもるさんだろ あみちゃんは ちょっと離れてるけど 浦和くんがいるし」
ー Makoto: “Seriously. Usagi-chan has Mamoru-san, Ami-chan has Urawa-kun even if they’re apart…”
J：みなこ「レイちゃんだって なんだかんだ言っても ゆういちろうさんがいるし 」
ー Minako: “And Rei-chan, even if she denies it, she has Yuuichirou-san.”
J：まこと「はあああ あたしも彼氏が欲しいなぁ」
ー Makoto: “Haah, I want a boyfriend too.”
J：みなこ「私も はぁあああ 」
ー Minako: “Me too… haah.”
J：ルナ「そろそろ時間なんじゃないの？あみちゃん」
ー Luna: “Isn’t it about time, Ami-chan?”
J：あみ「そうね じゃ みんな今日はごめんなさい」
ー Ami: “You’re right. Sorry, everyone, I’ll be going now.”
J：みなこ「・・・ねぇ あみちゃんの後 ついて行かない？」
ー Minako: “…Hey, why don’t we follow Ami-chan?”
J：まこと「え？ちょっと・・・ヤボじゃないかい？」
ー Makoto: “Eh? Wait… isn’t that a bit rude?”
J：レイ「でも…やっぱり気になるわよねー」
ー Rei: “But… I can’t help being curious.”
J：まこと「ちょ ちょっとみんなやめなよ。」
ー Makoto: “H-hey, you guys, stop it.”
J：うさぎ「よーし みんなで行きましょう。」
ー Usagi: “All right then, let’s all go together!”
J：みなこ「あれ？まこちゃんついてこないんじゃなかった？」
ー Minako: “Huh? Mako-chan, weren’t you against it?”
J；まこと「あ ああ いや たてまえ たてまえ 」
ー Makoto: “Ah, well, that was just… you know, formalities.”
J：レイ「やっぱり気になるんでしょ。」
ー Rei: “See, you are curious too.”
J：まこと「私 一応止めたからね。」
ー Makoto: “I did try to stop you all, though.”
バス停：bus stop
J：あみ「浦和くんに会うの久しぶりね♥」
ー Ami: “It’s been so long since I’ve seen Urawa-kun ♥”
J：レイ「あのバスに あみちゃん乗って行ったわよ。」
ー Rei: “Ami-chan got on that bus just now.”
J：まこと「あのバスは 東京駅に行くやつだね。」
ー Makoto: “That bus goes to Tokyo Station.”
J：みなこ「私たちもバスで行きましょ」
ー Minako: “Let’s take the bus too.”
J：うさぎ「なんかワクワクするね♥」
ー Usagi: “This is kind of exciting ♥”
東京駅：Tokyo Station
J：警備員「ここは東京駅だよ！」
ー Guard: “This is Tokyo Station!”
駅内：inside the station
J：うさぎ「あ・・・！あみちゃんいた！」
ー Usagi: “Ah…! There’s Ami-chan!”
J：みなこ「うさぎちゃん隠れるわよ」
ー Minako: “Usagi-chan, hide!”

J：みなこ「あの2人どこまで進んでるんだろう♥」
ー Minako: “I wonder how far those two have gotten ♥”
J：まこと「それにしてもあの2人は仲がいいな。」
ー Makoto: “Still, those two sure get along well.”
J：レイ「浦和くん元気かしら？」
ー Rei: “I wonder if Urawa-kun is doing well?”
J：あみ「ほんとに久しぶりね。浦和くん元気かな♥」
ー Ami: “It really has been a while. I hope Urawa-kun is doing well ♥”

J：レイ「新幹線着いたみたいね。」
ー Rei: “Looks like the bullet train has arrived.”
J：みなこ「今頃感動のご対面ね♥」
ー Minako: “They must be having an emotional reunion right now ♥”
J：まこと「そうだな・・・ん・・・！？何か様子が変じゃないか？」
ー Makoto: “Yeah… huh!? Something seems strange.”
J：乗客「うわー」
ー Passenger: “Uwaah!”
J：まこと「ちょっと待ちなよ。何があったんだい？」
ー Makoto: “Wait a sec. What happened?”
J：乗客「か・・・怪物が出たんだ！どいてくれ！」
ー Passenger: “A… a monster appeared! Get out of the way!”
J：みなこ「怪物・・・！？」
ー Minako: “A monster…!?”
J：乗客「男の子が1人逃げくれたんだ。警察を呼んでくれ。」
ー Passenger: “A boy ran away in there. Call the police!”
J：うさぎ「みんな！行ってみましょう。」
ー Usagi: “Everyone! Let’s go check it out!”

J：うさぎ「あみちゃん！」
ー Usagi: “Ami-chan!”
J：あみ「みんな！助けに来てくれたのね」
ー Ami: “Everyone! You came to help me!”
J：うさぎ「何！？すごい数の妖気を感じるわ！」
ー Usagi: “What!? I sense a huge number of evil presences!”
J：ルナ「みんな変身よ！」
ー Luna: “Everyone, transform!”
J：あみ「マーキュリースターパワー」
ー Ami: “Mercury Star Power!”
J：レイ「マーズスターパワー」
ー Rei: “Mars Star Power!”
J：まこと「ジュピタースターパワー」
ー Makoto: “Jupiter Star Power!”
J：みなこ「ビーナススターパワー」
ー Minako: “Venus Star Power!”
