Reading Retro Games : Sailor Moon Another Story (#1-1)
Here, I’m sharing transcriptions of dialogue and lines from retro games so that readers can enjoy “reading” them. Learning doesn’t always have to begin in a classroom setting—it’s perfectly fine to start from the things you love. I hope this can spark curiosity and help you expand your interests step by step.
In this article, we’ll look at Sailor Moon: Another Story (Super Famicom) — specifically, Chapter 1-1.
Investigation of the disturbance Luna sensed
■ In Usagi-chan’s home (There were no treasure chests in Usagi’s house.)
Japanese：これはうさぎちゃんの弟です。名前はしんごです。
ー This is Usagi’s younger brother. His name is Shingo.
J：しんご「なんだよ。うさぎ勝手に人の部屋に入ってくるなよ。」
ー Shingo: “Hey! Don’t just barge into someone’s room without permission!”

J：ママ「あら うさぎ今日は早起きね。」
ー Mom: “Oh my, Usagi, you’re up early today.”
Someone standing on the street in front of Usagi’s house
J：探検家？「うーむ。道に迷ってしまったらしい・・・。
おや？君は疲れているようだね。
この薬で回復してあげるよ。
疲れたらいつでもおいで！
しかし出口はどこなんだろう・・・」
ー Explorer?: “Hmm… looks like I got lost…
Oh? You seem tired.
Let me heal you with this medicine.
Come back anytime if you’re weary!
But where is the exit, I wonder…”

J：おばさん「おばさん 見ちゃったわよ♥
この間ハンサムな人と歩いてたでしょ。
10年若ければ私もうさぎちゃんに負けないのにねえ。」
ー Woman: “Oh, I saw you ♥
You were walking with a handsome guy the other day, weren’t you?
If I were 10 years younger, I wouldn’t lose to you, Usagi.”
A passerby in town
J： 街の人「時計屋さんとゲームセンターで このゲームの説明を聞くことができるんだ。」
ー Townsperson: “You can hear explanations about this game at the clock shop and the game center.”

J：街の人「さっき変な人が宝石店の前にいたよ。」
ー Townsperson: “I saw a strange person in front of the jewelry store earlier.”

J：街の人「平和な日が続いてくれればいいんだけど」
ー Townsperson: “I hope peaceful days continue…”

J：街の人「黒猫が目の前を横切った・・・不吉だ。」
ー Townsperson: “A black cat crossed my path… ominous.”
Game Center
J：UFOキャッチャーをプレイ中の人「は・・・話しかけないでくれ、集中できな・・・あ・・・」（どうやら彼は失敗したようですね。）
ー Person playing the UFO catcher: “D-Don’t talk to me, I need to concentrate… ah…” (Looks like he failed.)

J：ゲームセンターにいた人「黄色のボタンを押しながら歩くと街なかを速く歩けるよ。
それでももっと速く歩きたいなら、LボタンかRボタンで超ダッシュだ。」
ー Person in the Game Center: “If you hold the yellow button while walking, you can move faster in town.
And if you really want to go fast, press the L or R button for a super dash.”

J：ゲームセンターにいた人「このゲームではアクセサリーをつければ、防御力や攻撃力が変わるんだ。アクセサリーは宝石店やいろいろなお店で売ってるんだ。」
ー Person in the Game Center: “In this game, equipping accessories changes your defense and attack power. You can buy accessories at the jewelry shop or other stores.”

J：ゲームセンターのお兄さん「やあ うさぎちゃん 君はいつも元気がいいね。うさぎちゃんの顔を見ると元気が出るよ。」
ー Arcade guy: “Hey Usagi, you’re always so cheerful. Seeing your face makes me feel energized.”
ーーーーーーーーーー
J：ゲームセンターにいた人「このゲームはとーっても長いんだ。だからルナPボールのある所では必ずセーブをとったほうがいいぞ。ルナPポールっていうのは こいつのことなんだけど、話しかけてみなよ！」
ー Person in the Game Center: “This game is really long. So whenever you see a Luna-P Ball, you should definitely save your game. That thing over there is a Luna-P Ball, so try talking to it!”

J：なるちゃん「キャーーー誰か助けてーーー」
ー Naru: “Kyaa! Somebody help me!”
J：うさぎ「あ！なるちゃんが！！なるちゃんがダイモーンに襲われている！！」
ー Usagi: “Ah! Naru-chan!! Naru is being attacked by a Daimon!!”
J：ルナ「うさぎちゃんセーラームーンに変身よ！」
ー Luna: “Usagi! Transform into Sailor Moon!”
J：うさぎ「ムーンコズミックパワーメイクアップ！待ちなさい！」
ー Usagi: “Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up! Stop right there!”
J：ダイモーン「誰だ？」
ー Daimon: “Who are you?”
J：セーラームーン「愛と正義のセーラー服 美少女戦士セーラームーン か弱き乙女を襲うダイモーン！このセーラームーンが月に代わってお仕置きよ！」
ー Sailor Moon: “I am the pretty soldier in a sailor suit, fighting for love and justice—Sailor Moon! A Daimon who preys on a helpless girl… In the name of the Moon, I’ll punish you!”
ー After the battle ー
J：セーラームーン「まだダイモーンが生き残っていたのね。ルナが言ってたのはこのことだったのね。」
ー Sailor Moon: “So a Daimon really was here… This must have been what Luna sensed.”
J：なるちゃん「ありがとう。セーラームーン。」
ー Naru: “Thank you, Sailor Moon.”
J：なるちゃんのママ「ありがとうございました。セーラームーン。」
ー Naru’s Mom: “Thank you so much, Sailor Moon.”
inside Naru’s house
There was a treasure chest.

J：セーラームーン「ふああ・・・おうち帰って一眠りしよっと」
ー Sailor Moon: “Fwaaah… I’ll just go home and take a nap.”

J：まもる「・・・ここは！？」
ー Mamoru: “…Where am I?!”
J：？？？「・・・マスター」
ー ???: “…Master.”
J：まもる「今 俺を呼ぶ声が聞こえたが・・・ お・・・お前は・・・クンツァイト！！」
ー Mamoru: “I just heard someone calling me… Y-you’re… Kunzite!!”
J：クンツァイト「マスター・・・運命が迫っています。運命を変えるために邪悪な彗星が魔星からやってきます。全てを変えてしまう。忌まわしい力を持った彗星が 現在・・・未来・・・そして過去までも思うままに変える存在を生みます。」
ー Kunzite: “Master… Fate draws near. An evil comet is coming from the Demon Star. It will change everything. This accursed comet has the power to bring forth an existence that can alter the present… the future… and even the past at will.”
J：まもる「何！？ 運命を変える・・・？いつだそれは。」
ー Mamoru: “What?! Change fate…? When will that happen?”
J：クンツァイト「遠い未来のことです。」
ー Kunzite: “It will be in the distant future.”
J：まもる「それをなぜ今の俺に？」
ー Mamoru: “Then why tell me now?”
J：クンツァイト「あなたがその未来を選ぶのです。・・・」
ー Kunzite: “Because you are the one who will choose that future…”
J：まもる「ま 待ってくれ。クンツァイト・・・」
ー Mamoru: “W-wait! Kunzite…”

J：まもる「今のは夢か・・・？ しかし俺が未来を選ぶとは・・・」
ー Mamoru: “Was that a dream…? But for me to choose the future…”
J：四天王の箱が光っている・・・
ー The Box of the Four Heavenly Kings is glowing…
