โThe Process of Reclaiming the One-Line Diaryโ
Eight Months That Became a Turning Point in My Life
Due to a major event, I ended up delaying starting school for eight months.
Looking back now, I feel very lucky that it happened.
If I had started school eight months earlier, I think I would have continued as I always hadโaimlessly, without finding what I wanted to do, just acquiring technical skills, taking a job that didn't suit me, and failing just as I always had.
A lot of things happened during those eight months.
I wanted to remember and process all of those things, so I tried journaling, which I had been doing before. However, perhaps I didn't understand the meaning of journaling, or it just didn't suit me, and it never felt rewarding.
Once everything was settled, I summarized what had happened for my own sake as a final wrap-up. Since there was no one who could understand, it was a time when writing served simply as my own comfort. At that time, I hadn't fully remembered my own "way" of doing things yet. Even so, because I had written down the facts completely, I felt a sense of relief when I finished.
The One-Line Diary That Was My Emotional SupportโMy Wayโ
When I was in the lower grades of elementary school, my mind was in chaos, so I decided to try writing down what I was thinking on paper, just one line at a time. It wasn't in a notebook; I wrote my thoughts on the back of advertisements, scribbling them down like a pencil sketch.
At first, I was surprised.
I thought, "Is this what I'm thinking?" I wondered, "What is this?" But since I had written my own thoughts with my own hand, I decided to accept the facts honestly, thinking, "This is what I am thinking, isn't it?"
From then on, I started writing my thoughts on paper from time to time. It was because an interest had sprouted in what I was thinking.
My First Factoring of the Heart
One day, a child of the same age said something to me.
It hit me like a physical blow, making my heart feel heavy, and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
As the days went by, I stopped remembering the words themselves and instead began to see the silent scene flash through my mind. And I started to feel like I was a "bad child."
As the days of blaming myself continued and the true nature of that feeling became vague and blurry, I timidly tried writing down the words from that time on paper.
"โกโกโก"
When I did that, I could remember it clearly.
When I remembered those words and what had happened before them,
"Oh, I see. It's like this."
I arrived at an overall understanding.
Even as a child, I understood that when there is something heavy in my heart, a "lie" is hidden in my perception.
I felt I had learned how to be kind to myself and how to be on my own side. I also understood at that time that there is always a "why" answer for that person, in their own way.
Quiet Recovery
As I grew up, I forgot how I used to resolve things and what methods I had used, as I became distracted by various other matters. An inexplicable sense of "that's probably enough" dulled my judgment. Like losing a dear best friend, my one-line diary was pushed into the depths of my memory.
Having lost my one-line diary, I lost the way to look into my own heart, and I began to feel as if I were constantly being chased by something. Playing an instrument. Listening to music. Drawing pictures, looking at pictures. Trying to act. Watching performances. Reading books. I tried many things, trying to remember that method. Copying drawings or practicing calligraphy was somewhat fun, and I even received a certain amount of praise. However, I felt that these were different from a way to organize my thoughts.
I would bottle up "feelings I couldn't understand." If I bottled them up and couldn't digest them, those feelings would become lumps and pile up in my head. I finally remembered that I was someone who needed a one-line diary, not just to write words, but to understand the tones and temperatures that couldn't be put into words.
By experiencing these past eight months, I was able to bring that back into my hands once again.
I cannot thank you enough for this.
Automatic Future
Today, I organized the memories of the past eight months. I had once decided to keep them. But as I went about my daily life, I found that whenever I touched upon those fragments, I couldn't handle myself well.
But it is okay even without the physical objects. Because I realized that they are properly stored within my heart in the form of memories.
And now, being here like this and writing these sentences feels like a miracle. I am filled with the feeling that I have finally returned. I will cherish today, this moment, and fully enjoy the pleasure of writing. I believe that what emerges from that will automatically become the future. Automatic future. That is my future.
My daily pleasures have increased.
โThe sun is red
The sky is blue
The green on the trees shines deep
People are relaxed
The ground spreads out
I am me
I am who I am
In the state I should be
Everything that should be is in its rightful place
There, there is simply a beautiful orderโ
