Love Yokohama: Yokohama Port Opening Square

In front of Yokohama Port Opening Plaza,This place in Yokohama is said to be very important historically. Port Opening Plaza is located at the corner where Kaigan-dori street, coming from the Minato Mirai district, and Yamashita Park-dori street, coming from Yamashita Park, intersect.

The reason why it's so important is because in 1854, the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the United States government was signed here; a treaty that's featured in history textbooks. This treaty marked the end of Japan's isolation of nearly 200 years.

At the intersection in front of the square which is now a park, there is a low, retro-looking building with a Scandinavian restaurant inside. And at the end of Kaigan-dori street stands the Landmark Tower.
Close by on the sea side are Elephant's Nose Park and O-sanbashi Pier, and along the road leading to them are small but good retro atmospheric cafes, restaurants, and eateries.
