「書くことについて」課題③(英訳つき) my issue from ”On Writing”
The woman with whom he had a business meeting was not as bright as Jane.
She was somewhat unreliable, and she liked Dick. Dick had noticed that, too.
Today they had agreed to have lunch together on a terrace overlooking the ocean. Dick looked at Miller and straightened the crook of his tie.
We'll have lunch sometime.”
Dick promised her with a depressed look on his face, as if he was socializing, but today he wore a red tie with a thin gold line, which he only wears when he is on a game.
The crossing did not go up easily.
Then a large drop of rain hit the windshield. The raindrops fell with great force from the heavy clouds.
It was not surprising that there had been so many sudden heavy rains recently, but it was unusual to see such a heavy rainfall so late in the evening.
The sound of the rain could be heard even inside the car.
Mixed in with the sound was a different noise.
Someone was tapping on the window. The rain was like a mosaic and Dick could not see clearly, but he knew it was Jane.
Dick stopped moving for a moment. It was unnatural for Jane to be here.
Jane was complaining about something.
He opened the door,
Thank you,” she said, and came in with her rain-soaked coat.
Jane, what are you doing here?
Oh, no, I, uh, I have something to do here, too.
Jane pulled out a towel and wiped the hem of her dress and her hair, nodding with wide eyes. It's a coincidence,” she said. I'm lucky you're here.”
The train departed gently as the crossing went up.
Dick lowered the window and the sound of the rain grew louder.
The car bobbed up and down over the train rails.
Dick took one look at Jane through the mirror.
'Oh, I'm sorry,' he said. I got the seat wet.”
“No problem.”
Jane, where are you headed?”
Jane said she was going to the same building Dick was going to.
Where's Dick?
Me too.”
Dick sighed angrily.
Dick sighed angrily, “Well, what a coincidence.
Are you sure you're going to be all right dressed like that?”
Oh, yeah. I'm sorry, but do you mind if I leave my coat in the car?”
Dick looked in the mirror.
I don't think I'll be able to make it back in time, so would you mind taking it with you?
That's true,” Dick said.
Jane folded her coat with her eyes down.
Pulling up, Jane said, “Thanks, Dick. You'd better go home early today.
Why?” Dick looked at Jane. Jane looked at her watch as she hurriedly looked away.
'I have to go.'
The clack of Jane's heels echoed through the parking lot.
Dick noticed a small brooch on the seat. He could no longer see Jane. He looked at his watch, which read 10:57.
I'll see you when I get back.
Dick suddenly tilted his head and left the gold ballpoint pen Jane had given him in the car.
