21 "When I Gave Birth to My Child, I Also Gave Birth to Myself as a Mother"
"That's why I was so busy raising myself that I didn't even have time to think about how hard parenting was..." from Yamada Murasaki's book
(Oh, please don't point out that I’m reusing an illustration I’ve used before! There are reasons for this, I assure you.)
These were the thoughts of my mom(owner).
Before babies are born, they must have conversations with the goddess, don't you think? That conversation might go something like this:
"Your life begins now. Here’s a little about your mom and dad: They’re this way and that way—mostly like this. Are you okay with that? Do you think you’ll get along somehow?'
'Huh? Oh, really? I wonder if it’ll be okay? But well... I guess I’ll just have to try my best!'
And then, "Waaah! Waaah!"
Congratulations, a baby is born!
These sentiments reminded me of a passage from Yamada Murasaki's book, Seiwaru Neko (The Wicked Cat):
A young female cat curiously asked a busy mother cat, who’s hard at work raising her kittens:
“Hey, your little ones must be ridiculously cute, huh?”
The mom cat replies with a tired, knowing smile:
“Well, you know, when I gave birth to my kittens, I also gave birth to myself as a mother. And honestly? I’ve been so caught up in raising this new ‘Mom-me’ that I haven’t had the luxury of thinking about whether my kittens are adorable or whether raising them is tough!”
Motherhood is always a whirlwind. But maybe, just maybe, that’s the whole point of it all.
