映画【サブスタンス】でテーマだった〈ルックス以外の本当の、私自身〉を覗き込んでもらえた気にもなった。

美人さん好きには

今回は【サブスタンス】のスー役のような美人さんや、ブラックストーリーかつ〈人間の本質〉を描いたような映画が好きなあなたに…紹介したい2021年の映画。
サブスク配信になってから、数年前？に観た映画【ラストナイトインソーホー】について書きたい。

当時はAmazonPrimeで、配信最終日ギリギリでラストナイトインソーホーを観たのをよく覚えている。

映画の話の前に少しだけ〈私自身〉の話し

高校時代

今は本に関わる仕事をしていて、社内外問わず多くの人と関わる。
以前は子どもに関わる仕事をしていて大学時代から、一貫して〈教育に携わる〉ことに興味がある。

そんな私の高校時代。ある日突然、電車に乗れなくなった。
「指定校推薦でどの大学にも行かせてあげられる。オープンキャンパスに行って、好きなところを選びなさい。」
担任の先生にそう言われ放任主義の親を無理やり引き連れ、いろんな大学を見ていた頃。

大学のオープンキャンパスに向かう電車でやけに人の視線の動きが気になった。突然1両分の人の視線の行く末がレーザーのようにどこに動くのか一気に感じ取ってしまったのだった。
だが電車を降りれば、視線の動きは全く気にならず…すっかりそんな出来事は忘れてしまった。

しかし数週間後…通学で朝、満員電車に乗り込もうとしたところ…
どうにもフワフワする。
「熱でもあるかな」と軽く、考えがよぎったが…
次の瞬間。電車が走り出したとたんに、心臓が今までないほど踊りだした。
恐怖で冷や汗。しゃがみ込むか、誰かに助けを求めなくては…と
思うが、初めての出来事に恐怖で身動きも声も出せずに
ただただ満員電車に揺られていた。

今思うと、進路という環境の変化に対する恐怖と周囲の視線をきつく感じるようになったことが原因に思う。

パニック発作

その後〈パニック発作〉という言葉を知り、ようやく電車に一人で乗れるようになったのは学校に行けなくなった後。指定校推薦の話も立ち消えになって半年ほど経った時だった。

そんな時の私と、今回の映画【ラスト・ナイト・イン・ソーホー】の主人公エロイーズは重なる事が多かった。
初めて見た時の衝撃が、あまりにもキツく…思い入れが強い作品。

映画【サブスタンス】を劇場で観たとき、この映画を強く思い返し…。

このどうしても、この文章を書かずにはいられず…サブスクで久しぶりに観返した。

映画【ラスト・ナイト・イン・ソーホー】について

ネタバレなし　映画について

前回同様、ほぼネタバレなしの感想を前半あらすじ、後半レヴューとして140字で書いてみたい。

ファッションが大好きなエロイーズ。ロンドンに憧れ、田舎町で洋服を作り続ける日々。そんな彼女は《鏡の中にあるヴィジョン》が見えるが秘密にしている。

レトロスタイルのセット、衣装、音楽すべてが好み。また俳優陣も見事なキャスティング。ライティングの効果的な使用・鏡のようなダンスシーンに注目。（140字）

本当に《すべてのセンス》が好きすぎる作品。そこまでグロくもないし…ホラーにありがちな驚かす演出も、少なめに感じたので小さな子ども以外は観ても問題ないように感じた。

ネタバレありの感想

（文章を書くためにサブスクで2回目の鑑賞。その後すぐ時点）

鏡とベッド

ー鏡ー

出だしから、エロイーズの実家の部屋の鏡には大切な人がうつる。観客は一瞬だけ「？？？」となるが考える余地を与えない。
ただエロイーズの可愛さとテンポの良さと音楽であっという間に、ストーリーが進んでしまう。

話が進むにつれワンルームの部屋には、アンティークの鏡台。カフェやバー、学校いたるところに《鏡》が散りばめられたように登場する。

またエロイーズがエリーと呼ばれるようになってから、サンデイへの感情移入に歯止めが利かなくなる。

夢の中でサンデイが、イチャついていたはずなのに…何故か身に覚えのない
自分の首筋にキスマークがついていたりする。ここでエロイーズ（以降エリーと記載）は大人の恋愛を疑似体験する。

その体験ゆえ現実の異性との交流でも〈勝気なサンディのセリフ〉をはじめの頃は恥ずかしがりながら、口にするが…だんだんとサンデイとエリー2人の境界があいまいになる。
エリーは自分を慕ってくれる異性にサンデイのように強気に出るようになるが、せっぱつまる状況になるにつれ…どう接するかといった気づかいはできなくなる。

またストーリーが進むと割れる鏡の描写が多くなり、エリーの心理状態を表しているように感じる。

ーベッドー

段々とサンデイとエリーの境目が曖昧になり、もはや夢をみること・自室に帰ることさえもおっくうになり始める。が、そんな自分の感じ方の移り変わりには〈新しい環境のせい〉か気が付かないエリー。

また始めは夢を見るとサンデイに会えると、心躍るエロイーズだったが…エリーと呼ばれる頃にはすっかりベッドの描写も変わってくる。

サンディが表舞台に立つには《自らの身体を生贄に捧げないとならない》と知ったころから、エロイーズは眠りたくないと感じるようになる。

さらにサンディが自室で客を取らされるようになるともはや、エリーはボーイフレンドと共に自室に戻っても恐怖心が勝ってしまう。

実家にいた時には、鏡の中の大切な人のちらつき。都会に出てきて圧倒されると、感受性豊かなエリーは鏡に関わらず〈夢の中さらには現実世界でもサンディと同化〉する。これが祖母の言っていた「頭の中で迷子になる」ということなのか…と映画を観進める中で何度か考えてしまった。

遺伝と休息と不思議な力

映画の冒頭、祖母のセリフで象徴的だったのがエリーに対して「ママにはあなたのようなギフトはなかった」と語る。その様は、まるで《祖母である自分や孫のような力があれば、娘はあのようにはならなかった》と聞こえてならなかった。

少しだけセンシティブな話題について書いてみようと思う。

《統合失調症》という病名を知っている人がどれくらいいるだろうか。良くホラーやSFで、この病名が出てこなくとも同様の特徴の症状を持つ登場人物が多々出てくることがある。

この病気は100人に1人が発症するといわれ、かなり身近な病気とされている。しかしながら日本国内では、公に語られることは少ない。なぜか…。
「気がふれた・頭がおかしくなった」と古来から言われてきた病気だからだと私は感じている。
隠したいという家族の思いなどで、この病気の治療が正しくされない。そういったことはざらにあるそうだ。この病気の診断がついていない予備軍含め、この病気の治療がなされていないがゆえ…自殺者や引きこもりが日本には多いといった研究まである。

大きなストレス、環境の変化で発症するといわれているが規則正しい生活と休息を心掛けていれば発症もしないし、投薬も併せれば緩解できる病気とされている。
「頭の中で迷子」「この子のママ自殺しちゃったの」といったセリフから私はエリーの母親は統合失調症だったのではないかと感じた。

古来から《不思議な力を持つ人》としてあがめられるか、《気がふれた》として隔離されるか紙一重的なストーリー展開はよくあるものである。

私の好きな海外ドラマの【ストレンジャーシングス】の主人公イレブンと母親がいい例。

〈同じ単語を繰り返す母親〉は気がふれたとして精神病院に隔離後、適切な治療を受けられることなく自宅軟禁状態で長年を過ごす。

しかしながら娘のエルは幼いころからプロフェッショナルが付き訓練を受ける。そのような環境にいたことで〈自分の力をコントロールできる〉ようになる。

〈不思議なパワー〉と〈統合失調症〉については共通点がある。そもそも日本では不思議な力としては霊感等があげられる。が、こちらは経験者に聞くところによると遺伝することが多いらしい。
「わたしの母もそうなの」「おばあちゃんもそうみたい」よくそんな話を「何処何処のスーパーで買ってきたのよ」的なノリでよく聞く。

また研究として論文発表されているが、統合失調症も遺伝の要因が強いとした説もある。

私自身は《気がふれる》も《特殊な能力》も遺伝的要因が大きいと捉えている。
が、適切なサポートと知識さえあればと思わずにいられない。

エリーだって自分の置かれた状況を客観的にとらえられていれば…。大切な人の助言に従えていたら…。新たな環境に圧倒されず、適切な休養を取ることが出来ていたら…。
最後サンディの家が燃えることも、サンディの最期の終わり方もなかったのでは…と、ついつい考えてしまう。

異性の視線が与える影響　ー 男女逆転 ー

異性の視線を意識しすぎた末路についても、書いてみたい。これはもはや映画というより、私自身の身の回りの観察の結果と言っていいかもしれない。

異性の視線を自意識過剰なほど集めたい欲望にかられた人は行きつく先、内面が男女逆転する。と、おもうことが多々ある。これは前回、書いた文章の映画【サブスタンス】にも共通するかもしれない。

マリオネットのテーマでバックダンサーとして踊るようになったころから、サンディは違う名前を客に言うようになる。

ジブリ映画の【千と千尋の神隠し】も売春の話だ。と、いわれることがあるが…名前を変えて別人としていないと〈自分が壊れてしまう〉雇われ側の事情もあるだろうし、後で〈そんな子は雇っていません〉と言い逃れできる・〈雇用者を別人格として扱うことで精神的にコントロールしやすい〉という雇う側の事情もあるのだろう。

【千と千尋の神隠し】の千も【ラストナイトインソーホー】のエリーことエロイーズも名前が途中で変わりストーリーの最期には男性的にみえなくない程、強くなる。
もっと言うと男性的な〈社会で生きていく上での強さ〉を身につける。
わたし自身も一社会人だが、世の中でバリバリはたらく男性ほど彼女や奥さんの前では借りてきた猫の様になるか、女性的な内面を大きく秘めているように感じる。
異性の視線に強くさらされるアイドルと言われる人を観ていても、そのように感じる事が多い。

結局のところ、この映画から私が一番〈感じ取ったメッセージ〉は、あこがれの人ではなく。例えばエリーの、おばあちゃんや危ない大家の家から助けようとしてくれた彼の様に…〈自分自身を本当に大切にしてくれる人の助言は素直に受け入れたほうがいい〉ということ。

ということで、私は最近〈休息が必要と心から感じる〉ので仕事や私生活を根本的に見直してみたい。

おまけ①:事前に観ていたことのあった、関連する映画ドラマなど

【ラストナイト・イン・ソーホー】サブスクのサムネを見た時点で最初の印象は「ネオンがきれいだなぁ～」の次に「この子、知ってるっ。」だった。彼女を初めて知ったのはネットフリックスの【クイーンズギャンビット】。

さらには熱烈なファンを持つマッドマックス（近代のやつ）の続編、マッドマックス　フュリオサの役の彼女でもあった。

もともと【ラストナイトインソーホー】は人に勧めてもらいサブスクのリンクをあけたものの…「クイーンズギャンビットの彼女が出ている！では、すぐ観ないとっ。」となったのを覚えている。

また勧めてくれた人からの前情報として、同じくネトフリの「【クラウン】に出てた人も出てたよ」と言われその場で「？！！！！！！！！！！！！！」と一気に興味を惹かれたのも強烈なファーストインプレッションとして残っている。

また観進めているうちに、あれ？この人？あれにでてた人？？？という人が何人も出てきて豪華じゃないか…と思っていたら…。

「ごめんなさい。大好きな映画の監督さんでしたか…存じ上げず…。」と、なって。すべてが一人で納得いったことも思い出す。

Just like last time, I will write my impressions in 140 words without spoilers as the first half synopsis and second half review.

Eloise loves fashion. She longs for London and continues to make clothes in a rural town. She sees visions in the mirror, but she keeps them secret.
I like all the retro style sets, costumes and music. The cast of the actors is also excellent. Notice the effective use of lighting and the dance scene like a mirror. (140 Japanese characters)

I really like "All Sense" too much. It wasn't that grotesque ... I felt that there were not so many surprises that are typical in horror, so I felt that there was no problem for anyone except small children to watch.
