70歳まで製錬所で働かせてもらって、それから港に来てるんよ。島の人とも、観光の人とも楽しくやらせてもらってるで。外国人とは「ありがとうございます!」ってあいさつしてな。自分は昔から好き勝手。前妻が50歳でガン で亡くなった時、離れて暮らしてる娘が「お父さん遊んだらええよ」って言うてくれて、「今日はどこにおるん?」て朝晩電話をくれてな。そんなんで5年間楽しく過ごして、 55歳で再婚したんよ。そしたら目のガンになってな。6箇所も転移して、血液のガンにもなって、もう完治はしないって言われたけど、抗がん剤を打って、周りの人と笑って楽しくしてたら今ではこの通りや。ガンになったら塞ぎ込んだらアカンで。楽しいおろうな。

I worked at Mitsubishi Materials until 70, then I have been work- ing at the port. I spend my days cheerfully greeting people getting on and off the ship and having a good time. When my ex-wife passed from cancer, my daughter told me, “Dad, spend your time doing lots of fun things,” and thanks to her I was able to meet my current wife. I also had cancer and was told by the doctor that there was no cure. But thanks to laughing and having fun with people around me, I am now living well.
