よっちゃん

直島諸島の一つである向島出身。 中学校卒業後、石船、砂船の運搬 で働き、この10数年はタコ漁師として海に出ている。

Yocchan
Born on Mukae Island, part of the Naoshima Islands. After graduating middle school, he worked on boats transporting stone and sand. For the past 10 years, he has been fishing for octopus.

タコ漁師は始めて10年くらいや。最初は石船やっとた んじゃ。中学出てから20年くらい。最初は2人がかりで重 たい石を担いでいたから大変じゃ。腰を痛めて入院した りもしたしな。瀬戸大橋を作る時は4年運んだ。あと神戸 に人工島があるやろ。あそこにも石を運んだ。それから 20年くらいは砂船をした。船長もしたんじゃけど、砂が 取れんようになってな、先輩がタコつぼでもやった方が ええぞ言うて、教えてもろた。

タコ漁師が一番向いとる。夏が好きでな、沖にも行け るしタコもようけ取れる。多い時は30キロぐらいじゃ。 やっぱり自分が考える仕事がおもろいな。動ける時は動 いた方がええから、やれるだけ続けるつもりや。

After graduating middle school, I worked for about 40 years transporting stones and sand by ship. I delivered materials for projects like the Seto Ohashi Bridge and Kobe’s artificial island and also served as a captain. When the sand ran out, a friend suggested octopus fishing, so I started̶and it’s been about 10 years now. I’ll keep doing this work as long as I’m healthy!
