直島生まれ。
1995年から直島の風景を色紙に 描き続け、その数は1300枚以上 に及ぶ。

Since 1995, he has been paint- ing the landscapes of Naoshima onShikishiboard,creatingover 1,300 pieces.

当時、町長の三宅さんが「墨絵の講座を開くから岡崎入れ 」と言われたんやけど、ワシは絵が下手でな。でも、下手やから入れって言われて絵を描き始めたんや。まさか90歳まで絵を描くことを楽しめるなんて思わなかった。 あの時は無理やり講座に入れさせられたけど、今は感謝しているわ。何が幸せになるかはわからんわな。娘が近くにおってくれるから安心して描けるんよ。この歳になっても退屈せんと、毎日楽しくいられて、こうやって取材に 来てもらえて嬉しい。絵を描くことは息をするのと一緒や。東京、大阪、京都、高松の展覧会に出して、賞ももろてな。おかげで良い思い出ができました。人生は思い出作り。思い出は自分の歴史や。

I have been painting for over 50 years. The mayor of the town at the time told me, “If you are not good at paint- ing, you can become good at it” so I joined a sumi-e class. I never imagined that at the age of 90. I would still be painting and finding joy in painting every day. We never know what will bring you happiness. I have exhibit- ed in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Takamatsu, and received awards. Thanks to painting, I have lived a good life.
