秒速5センチメートル
「秒速5センチメートル」は、「君の名は。」「天気の子」「すずめの戸締まり」といったヒット作を生み出してきた新海誠が、脚本・監督を務めた2007年公開の劇場アニメーション作品。センチメンタリズムが凝縮された“新海ワールド”の原点との呼び声も高く、公開から18年経った今もなお愛され続けており、今回、実写映画化に際して奥山由之がメガホンを取った。
1991年生まれの米津は10代の頃、アニメーション映画「秒速5センチメートル」と新海自身が書き下ろした同作品の小説に深い感銘を受けた。主人公・遠野貴樹と、ヒロイン・篠原明里が出会ったのが1991年。2人が小学校で心を通わせ過ごしたまばゆい日常、大人になってからも色あせない“あの頃”が「1991」というタイトルに込められている。米津は原作の世界観をリスペクトしながら主人公に自らを重ねて楽曲を制作した。
Born in 1991, Yonezu was deeply impressed by the animated film "5 Centimeters per Second" and the accompanying novel written by Shinkai himself when he was a teenager. The protagonist, Tono Takaki, and heroine, Shinohara Akari, met in 1991. The title "1991" embodies the dazzling everyday moments when people bonded with each other in elementary school, those "days" that never fade even as we grow into adults. Yonezu reflected on the worldview of the original work and identified himself with the protagonist when creating the song.
Like Yonezu, Okuyama was also born in 1991.
米津と同じく奥山も1991年生まれ。これまでに米津の「感電」や「KICK BACK」のミュージックビデオやアーティスト写真の制作を通じて深い信頼関係を築いてきた2人が、今回は主題歌アーティストと監督としてタッグを組む。主題歌発表に伴い米津と奥山からのコメントが到着。その中で米津は「子供のころ原作と出会い、数年まえMV監督としての奥山さんと出会い、やがて映画監督にもなった彼がこのような素晴らしい映画を撮り、そこにわたしの居場所があったのが嬉しくてなりません」と思いをつづり、奥山も「互いに『1991』年に生まれ、同じ時代にものづくりを始めて、だからこそ（きっと）似た悩みをくぐり抜けながら、時に一緒に創作をしてきた米津さんと、ついに『秒速5センチメートル』を共に描けたことが嬉しくてなりません」と本作で米津とタッグを組むことができた喜びを明かしている。またこの発表に合わせて、奥山が撮影した米津の新たなアーティストビジュアルも公開された。
Okuyama also revealed his joy at being able to work with Yonezu on this film, saying, "We were both born in 1991 and started creating in the same era, so we've (surely) gone through similar struggles and sometimes worked together on projects, and it's been so much fun to finally be able to create 5 Centimeters per Second together."
実写映画「秒速5センチメートル」は、10月10日に公開予定。松村北斗（SixTONES）が主演を務め、高畑充希、森七菜、青木柚、木竜麻生、宮崎あおい、吉岡秀隆らが出演する。主人公・遠野貴樹の18年間にわたる人生の旅を、幼少期、高校生、社会人の3つの時代で描く実写版は、東京や種子島などを舞台に全編ロケで撮影された。
The live-action film "5 Centimeters per Second" is scheduled for release on October 10th. Starring Hokuto Matsumura (SixTONES), the film also stars Mitsuki Takahata, Nana Mori, Yuzu Aoki, Mai Kiryu, Aoi Miyazaki, and Hidetaka Yoshioka. The live-action version depicts the protagonist Takaki Tono's 18-year life journey through three periods: childhood, high school, and working life, and was shot entirely on location in Tokyo, Tanegashima, and other locations.
