Shitsu Village 出津集落

from Nagasaki Station 長崎駅 via Sakura-no-sato Terminal 桜の里ターミナル


I began my walk in Shitsu Village at Shitsu Church.








Ōno Village 大野集落







The hidden Christians ostensibly became shrine parishioners (氏子) of the Ōno Shrine and continued their own faith in secret, while feigning faith in Shintōism.

The island in the right hand side must be Ike Island (Ikejima 池島),
once prospered from the Ikejima coal mine (池島炭鉱), but the mine closed in 2001.
On a clear day, the shadows of the islands of the Gotō Archipelago 五島列島 can be seen beyond the Sumō-nada Sea 角力灘 (the coastal waters of the Nishisonogi Peninsula in the Gotō-nada Sea).
