37.Carolus Linnaeus / Carl von Linné （カール・フォン・リンネ）18世紀スウェーデン出身の博物学者。（分類学の父）生物学はもともと生物を分類して理解することが基本である。最初の分類者はアリストテレスとされ、彼は、人間を頂点、植物を最下層とする分類を提示した。その後、生物学者たちは、理路整然とした体系による分類を目指した。リンネは、大分類として、動物界、植物界、鉱物界の3つを提示し、最下位分類である「属」「種」は、ラテン語の2つの単語からなる分類名をつけた。この命名法は現在でも使われている。彼は人間を動物の一種と定義した初めての人物で、「ホモ・サピエンス」と名付けた。この考えは、ダーウィンに引き継がれていく。

◎私は生物系の学部で学んだので、大学1年生の最初に植物学と生物分類額のなかでリンネのことを学んだような記憶がある。印象としては、植物の学名をたくさん命名した人という感じだったが、動物界を含めて、体系的な分類方法を提示した人だったんですね。ごめんなさい。イチョウGinkgo、マツPinusなど身近な植物の属名の多くはリンネが命名している。
